Medicare Supplement and Dental

I have been enrolled in the AARP UHC Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP) for the last 4 years and have been reasonably satisfied with it. But this year, I am considering a Supplemental plan instead (probably Plan G). As you all probably know, MAPs come bundled with dental, hearing, and vision insurance of some sort, but with a Supplement, you pretty much have to cobble this all together on your own.

The AARP UHC Supplemental Plan G + Wellness, however, comes bundled with dental insurance, some vision coverage, and a gym membership. The premiums are a bit higher than the regular Plan G, but it might be worth it. I don't know yet.

Anyway, the sticky point is the dental insurance. I have an excellent dentist and I want to get dental insurance that has my dentist in-network. At one point, I thought I read that UHC dental insurance was through Delta Dental. I may be wrong about that.

My dentist's web site says they accept many different insurance companies including Delta Dental and UnitedHealthcare.

Here's my question: Does anyone have some knowledge, insights, or suggestions on how I can verify if my dentist is in-network for the AARP UHC Supplemental Plan G + Wellness dental coverage? Any help would be appreciated.

(And, PLEASE, don't reply to this post telling me how bad the UHC Supplement plans are and stuff like that. I just need help chasing down this dental insurance question. THANKS!)

my plan G has a dental discount thru Dentegra.  Not a lot of participating dentists in my area, and no way am I giving up my current dentist.

i currently have Preferred Network Access by Cigna through https://www.dentalplans.com .

Dentegra Dental Discount

As an insured member with an AARPยฎ Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan, you can receive discounts for dental services from in-network dentists through Dentegra.

  • In-network discounts generally average 30-40%* off contracted rates nationally for a range of dental services, including cleanings, exams, fillings and crowns
  • You have access to 29,000 in-network general dentists and specialists at 130,000 locations nationwide
  • There are no waiting periods, deductibles, or annual maximums
  • Discounts are available at no additional cost to you

The Dentegra dental discount is not insurance.

To take advantage of this offer,

1. You can visit the provider lookup at www.Dentegra.com/uhc to select a Dentegra network dentist.

2. Contact the participating dentist and tell them that you are a member of the Dentegra Dental Discount Program and provide discount code # 20995-0001. They can then provide you with pricing for the dental services youโ€™ll receive.

3. Schedule an appointment with a Dentegra network dentist to receive services.

4. Visit the participating dentist for treatment.

5. Show your AARP Medicare Supplement Plan Health Insurance identification card upon check-in.

6. Pay your dentist directly for your procedure(s).

@JerryS109

This is the time of year where you should be getting a lot of information sent to you by different plan providers. I have two envelopes of information from different plans on my desk that I am about to shred. I already have my plan, and it will renew.

Check with your plans and see who provides Dental service under them. Your dentist should be able to provide the information you need.
