AARP Hearing Center
Hi, Looking for a link on this site that outlines the 7% Household Premium Discount for Medicare Supplemental Insurance, and any other member benefits for this insurance. Not just a link to UHC about their plans, a link to the member benefits and discounts. Chatted online but no help. Please let me know, thanks
There isn’t one - AARP has NO responsibility in setting any premiums or give any discounts for Medigap plans (Medicare Supplemental) or even Medicare Advantage plans or Prescription Drug plans. They are not an insurance company.
The ONLY relationship that AARP and UHC have is the royalties paid by UHC to AARP for the use of the AARP branded name.
You should refer to UHC for the details on any Medicare Supplemental plan that you are interested in -
AARP.org- Member Benefit - AARP® MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT FROM UNITEDHEALTHCARE
Note it says at the link ~
Plans and pricing can be found on the UnitedHealthcare website
Then the Disclosure at the same link says:
DISCLOSURES
AARP commercial member benefits are provided by third parties, not by AARP or its affiliates. Providers pay a royalty fee to AARP for the use of its intellectual property. These fees are used for the general purposes of AARP. Some provider offers are subject to change and may have restrictions
You do or did have to be a member of AARP to get a Medicare Supplemental plan from UHC - at least for the year that you sign up for the plan after that time period you do not have to be a member to keep the AARP UHC Supplemental plan because by Federal law they can only cancel your policy by you NOT making your premium payments or you have told a falsehood on your application.
As to the family discount or any other discount - you need to reference the UHC site on AARP UHC Supplemental plans to see what is offered in your state. That is where you will find your details - ask them for a copy of the Explanation of Benefits to see what an of the specific plans say about their detailed discount structure.
In some areas you can book an appointment with a licensed insurance agent in your area and you can always talk to a SHIP counselor (State Health Insurance Program agent) in your state.
Go to the UHC website to the page for AARP UHC Medicare Supplemental and read the info at the bottom of the page -
