AARP Hearing Center
I am on medicare. I am thinking about United Healthcare. I was told an option is Optimum. Except I looked it up and it's prescription only. I am looking for insurance. Again I am on medicare and not medicare. Changing from Humana because pain doctor wants to do some procedures that Humana denied.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shannon in Arizona
Little confused by your statement here “Again I am on medicare and not medicare”
Did you mean that you are on MEDICARE and not MEDICAID? or the other way around?
If you are on Medicare - you have Medicare Part A (inpatient) and Medicare Part B (outpatient) $ 202.90 premium in 2026 and Medicare Part D - the prescription drug plan of your choice.
On Medicare, you have your choice of getting your Medicare benefits via the traditional program or a Medicare Advantage plan available to you in your area most Medicare Advantage plans have an included prescription drug plan included within them.
You don’t sound like you are understanding the program of Medicare very well so the best thing for you to do is talk to somebody. Your state’s SHIP (state health insurance program) representative or a Medicare Insurance broker which represents many different companies.
You can read Medicare and You and it will explain it all to you.
Sorry to say that you have just missed the annual open enrollment when you can change your Medicare Advantage plan OR your free standing Prescription drug plan.
