Rewards - Phone Verification 2025

AARP seems to be instituting "individual phone verification" for each Rewards account - which can be a problem for house holds with multiple users with separate accounts and not enough phones - either landline and cell per accounts. Be on the look out for this.

For me I have one land line with two separate accounts ( my mother and I ); and I'm stuck out cold - and I'm the paying member 🙄 . Live at the same address/ house but can't share the same number ???

I understand the need for true verification of accounts; but how can people resolve this ???  Does AARP customer care have a solution ??? ;   A real solution.  😐  ( Update - I was able to use a sort of work - around )

I'm sure there are others who have similar type of situations.

AARP is making access to your personal information more secure. Soon, you will be required to verify your identity with a one-time code whenever you access or update your personal information. This secure code will be sent to the verified phone number you provide.

Please enter the phone number you would like to use to verify your identity. We will never share or sell your number, only use it to make sure it is you. Data rates may apply. Terms & Conditions.

We only accept US numbers with country code +1.

🤔  My Notes:  Of my two connections - it is a 6 digit code read aloud - repeated 3 times.

Please prepare yourself with pen and paper.

If you didn't catch it - you can 'resend' again. 😉

....... and of course if you use a cell phone - 'by accepting and use of a cell - they (AARP *and others* ) will send you all sorts of   .......  🙄   ...........

is the verification a phone call to a land line since a land line doesn't have text? If two people share a phone number how will that work?

Hi @EstB397359, thanks for asking! If you use a landline, you will receive an automated phone call with the verification code. A phone number may only be used once per email address. - Diana G.

Thanks for replying, but I used a valid work-around (by myself without any AARP assist ) and I am now able to use the Reward section; but other members will still have to deal with this dilemma.

@BtW751689   I totally understand, however, your online security is very important to us. We're always looking for ways to improve it. The verification code is an extra layer of security, and you'll only be asked for it when you first sign up for AARP Rewards - change your password on aarp.org or change your registered email address on aarp.org Your phone number will only be used to verify your identity and won't be shared or used for any other purpose. Please let me know if you have any other questions, or if I can help. Thank you.  Jodee R.
