SPOUSE NOT RETIRING YET

My spouse is 8 years younger and will not be on SS for several more years. I am 65 and want to retire, but I have read that his income will deduct what I should be able to draw. How much will I be penalized for what his income is?  I'm not pulling his SS....only mine.

His income will not affect your own benefit in amount that you will be drawing.  Only income which YOU earn over the 2024 earnings limit rule will affect your benefit since at 65 you will be younger than your full retirement age.

AARP.org - What is Social Security’s 'special earnings limit rule'?

YOUR benefit will be reduced for drawing earlier than your full retirement age but I assume you know that already.

The only way the amount which your husband earns could affects your benefit is perhaps under the taxing rule of SS benefits rule if it applies.  This will not affect the amount of your benefit but it may affect the amount of tax you may have to pay on your SS benefit.

IRS.gov - Don’t forget, Social Security benefits may be taxable
