What Are Your Favorite Instrumental Tunes?

The subject of instrumentals came up in another thread, so I thought it might be fun to see what instrumental tunes everyone enjoys. Instrumentals cover a wide range of genres when you start to think about it; classical (of course), movie soundtracks, pop, jazz, big band oldies, blues, country, rock, and many instrumental versions of your favorite song titles, too.

So what instrumental music do you like? What are your favorite tunes or instrumental versions of your favorite songs? Multiple tunes and multiple genres are okay. And, if you have favorite on youtube, feel free to post the link so that we can listen, too!

Birdland by Weather Report.   It Rocks out.   The Manhattan Transfer added a lyric to every note in the weather report original and had a hit with it, but the original is instrumental.

Another is Misty by the great jazz pianist Erroll Garner.   The beautiful lyrics were added in later, with Gardner's approval.

This guy is an amazing master of medieval instruments. He calls this โ€œBardcoreโ€.He is from Spain. Apparently, that is a thing now in Europe. He is also on Spotify. If you click more in the description, it will list the instruments played.

Mark Knoffler's "Screenplaying" cd.  What a fabulous collection of the most beautiful instrumentals that are exuberant yet soothing.  The instrumental is exquisite when it blends right into the theme from the "Princess Bride".  If you have never heard this album/cd, give yourself a real treat and turn on play.

Looking back at some of the picks here, Knopfler's Screenplaying has already been suggested.  Different genre, but Whammer Jammer by the J. Giels Band.

Lady Down on Love, the original Alabama piece. I dont know who did it but it was a wonderful arrangement. Not over done, acoustic guitar lead, gentle rhythms with a subtle background combination of violin and soft organ. loved it.

That was pretty good. Monty Python? I think I should have heard of him before. What year was this?

To Admin: I wonder why this link didn't show up in my email. Others have been. Any idea? I got the email, but without the link.

The song was from 95. Monty Python reference was from the Monty Python's Flying Circus show. Something John Cleese said on some of the sketches transitions. Didn't have anything to do with Steve Vai. Just a remark after some calm songs to a rocker.
