GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS
For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..
So do you have favorites?
What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

Okay, here's one that y'all may not know is a cover song. I didn't either until I saw it on an AXS-TV program called Hits That Were Covers. A lot of music professionals didn't know it was a cover either. This one got the no. 1 ranking on the show.
Black Magic Woman - Santana (1970 cover)
So here's the original - Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green (Green wrote it) 1968

Absolutely great cover pick. People forget how great a guitar player that Peter Green was. Everybody knows Santana is.
I read a lot of comments on youtube by deep-seated, die-hard, blues fans who know the Green version. A lot of them think that Santana went too far with his arrangement, doing Green a great injustice.
On the other hand, Santana plays it the way he would have written it, and I think that is why a lot of folks like me think that it's a Santana song. And of course, Santana had the hit that's still playing around the world.

Cyrcle; Red Rubber Ball
Correct, Paul Simon wrote the song with Bruce Woodley of The Seekers, but S&G never recorded it. They did sing it in concert where it was recorded and later added to a compilation album (Old Friends). This is from the 1967 concert at Lincoln Center.

I WONDER WHO'S COVERED "DON'T LEAVE ME THIS WAY" BY THELMA HOUSTON.
I've always liked Cake's version of I Will Survive
The Communards covered Don't Leave Me This Way but I actually like Thelma Houston's version better.

DOLLY'S VERSION OF "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU" ECLIPSED THAT OF WHITNEY HOUSTON,. PERHAPS IT CAME FIRST?
I don't feel either version is better than the other... they are so different they are different songs. Love them both.
