Don't keep all of your eggs in one basket such as 100% stock. That is a dangerous game to play in my opinion. There will always be market ups and downs so have some of your retirement money in something besides stock, maybe a bond ladder, treasuries, money market funds, CD's, rental property, etc. There have been times when it takes the market years to recover so you don't want to be forced to sell at a loss. When the stock market has nice gains, we sell some of them and put them into safer assets. I just like sleeping well at night. We can ride out a downturn without panic or losing sleep.
