Question to all the 'old timers' here...

When did the AARP Rewards start?

When I came into AARP in Nov. 2020, I think I saw the last remnants of the bigger rewards and the ability to get more than just one per item.

I was busy trying to earn a lot of points for what I expected, but it slowly de-evolved to what we have now - the 'short/ shorter end of the stick' ; while the non-paying/ non subscribed are seemingly getting 'a better deal/ per value'

$10.00 g.c. for every one; and just only $5.00 g.c. for us paid 'Member's Only' 😠

I'm a fairly new member, but from what I see of GC options, there are about equal distribution of $10 and $5 GC for members and non-members (mostly $5 GC and a few $10 GC). For me, the types available for members are much better than the ones available for non-members. But I've said this before (so I'm sorry to sound like a broken record), but my big problem with the program is that I almost never get the popular GC (for both members or non-members) because they sell out so fast and I don't have time to check for new rewards every hour of the day. If they want to make the program even a little bit better, they should offer more of the popular GC so they don't sell out so fast and more people can get them.

I see a lot of people here that registered back in 2009. Maybe it's been since then. I've also seen mentioned something about 'auctions,' and I surely wasn't here for that! I remember the 3 redemptions (in 2020), too, and you could take 3x 25.00 GCs and apply it to one vendor (ie, PetSupplies.com, etc.). Now, it's 10.00 or less, and only one redemption per vendor (note that some vendors have GCs restrictions of how many can be applied at the time of checkout, as well).

Great points here! 😊

How about 3 X $25 Omaha Steaks redemption’s back in the day. That was a true reward. Sadly we won’t ever see that again with this administration. 😱 😱 😱

The newer AARP Rewards program started at the end of September 2019 when the Rewards for Good program ended.  Looking back, the Rewards for Good seem to have better perks, but at the time, AARP admin promised a "better and greater" rewards program.   In the older Rewards for Good,  there was a Daily Deal offering @ 3 p.m. EST.to "win" $5 gift cards for various vendors or merchandise offerings. It was something to look forward to each day.

At the start of the new AARP Rewards, we were able to redeem 3 rewards for the same item, if we wanted to.

@JoLo49 everyone

Hey yes I planned my days around 3PM back then.... even recall stopping in rest area on trips back to family to try win items offered back then...I have lots nice jewelry and knives & kitchen gadgets & sports items I gave gifts of things to my family... most times had pay little something but well discounted & worth cost... liked most everything ever got at times some were FREE also magazines Free

Plus Auctions & Sweepstakes which back then I won dozen or so times I've not ever won Sweeps in new Rewards

Hey just recalled we didn't know what would be offered each day... only popped up item minutes b4 be offered so that increased excitement and participation & it ended when sold out wasn't a 2 hr window setup for it

I miss the merchandise... we had an inkling of it offered months ago travel bags & such Daily Deals went fast took skill & luck much like ones today but only discounted gift cards now so rarely try for em

Also there was an actual store to buy jewlery clothing shoes and gift cards lots of stuff didn't always require points

'Rewards for good' was around when I joined 2008 & do believe Jolo correct New began Sept 2019 was b4 Pandemic

I spent hrs everyday earning points many had millions of points Points expiration didn't begin till after new Rewards up & going so desire to earn & receive things was great

Always issues with points not being rewarded... believe that to be way is with anything setup way is

There are a greater number of quizzes & videos than used to be

But early in New Rewards getting 3 of any $$ amt Walmart or Sam's & Amazon gift cards was really great they sold out fast but with increase in membership since then has caused them reduce to 1 of each cause no longer can last way used to

Reckon like rest of life... always pluses and minuses to way was and way is

It's definitely different & I am no longer as interested as use to be bbbuuutttt 5+ new members surely makeup any loss from my participation

As was said... those were good ole days !

Grateful for all blessings... may you be blessed today in some wonderful way!

Hello everyone 🤗. I'm some what pleased with the $10 gift cards ( here now and then gone) I got the DSW gift card but missed the Old Navy. Maybe next time. I don't check out the Rewards Program website all day and night but I'm glad to see others snatching them up. KUDOS to those who post them. For the moment I have to give Kudos to the AARP Rewards website for putting up more $10 gift cards. Now if only they would give the members some $15 ( extra for being a member) gift cards. Just like they give us extra points for quizzes and videos. That seems fair doesn't it? All those in favor Stand up and let AARP Rewards Program administration know how we feel about members only getting short changed. I see 2 $5 gift cards for members only and 2 magazine subscription and that Members Only Trust & Will gift. So when they post $10 gift cards, everyone can claim them. Not fair 😡. AARP Rewards you still have a ways to go before your members will feel that they're benefiting more than non members. I'm just saying

How about first advocating for the removal of incredibly old (points only) GCs, maybe every two weeks? For example, these two GCs (shown below) have been in the rewards catalog for way too long! That's two spots for new GCs to be introduced, which I think makes a difference in the excitement of the rewards program, and for it to be 'freshened' every two weeks. Also, there should be as many GCs available as there are Instant Wins, 7 GCs at all times. At least something to look forward to, although it will be the usual 5.00 GC regurgitation. I'm only speaking of those points only GCs that do no sell out before the two weeks are up. We all know that AARP has released 10.00 GCs, they are few and far between, but in no way would AARP release 15.00 GCs, nor would they give us 4 redemptions every month (instead of 3), although it's a nice thought. I just don't think those things are ever going to happen, unless they made the 3 to 4 redemptions for members only. If you are a non-member you'd get 3 redemptions, if you are a member, 4 redemptions.

Overall, something like this...remove old GCs every 2 weeks, have at least 7 points only GCs available at all times, 4 redemptions for members only. There! That's my input. Seems good to me! 🙂

@AARPJanelleM  Pass this on, please. 🙂

My biggest disappointment in this program is how fast the popular gift cards sell out, even the ones for members only.  I really wish they would offer more of those, so more people could get them.  I don't have time to check the rewards website (or this discussion) all the time to find out exactly when the popular gift cards become available, so I almost never get them before they are sold out.  I end up using my 3 rewards on gift cards that aren't ones I would really like to get, or sometimes I don't even use my 3 rewards for the month, which is really annoying.

I like the rewards up for a full month, two weeks is too short. The reason I like the whole month is because if there's nothing I have used all my redemptions on I will get a stand by rather then waste a redemption. The idea of 4 redemptions for members only is a really good idea.

I would LOVE to see a drop down box for all the greeting cards and get them out of the redemptions page for points.

I understand the 1 month, but you'd have rotation every two weeks, thus still having the opportunity to redeem something before month's end, maybe something you'd prefer more? I do not agree with having the same GCs up for a full month. I think the rewards program should be more exciting, with fresh rotation. 🙂

I have advocated for 4 rewards per month which would equate to one a week. Although free is free there's nothing to do with a $5 certificate because the tax alone on some things would exceed the $5.

Before getting 4 rewards, I really wish they would offer more of the popular gift cards. There are times I don't even use my 3 rewards, because the gift cards that I would like to get are sold out before I even see them on the rewards site.  The ones that last longer are ones I can't use (restaurant or store not in my area), or ones that I wouldn't use so won't waste my points on them.
