Coffee !

I've been all over these forums & can't find the 'right forum', so mybe i'll find an answer on the front porch ? 

I have 2 cans of 'cheapie' coffee ; tried mixing them so they would be more flavorful, but not-so-much did it work. Might buy a more spendy brand & mix them, but in meantime, anyone have any ideas on how to make these cheap brands taste better ?

Missed one step in Civet coffee not straight from rear to roaster, it’s gathered from ground and then roasted. Might be a reason for the pricey cost.

I grind my own on a costly Italian grinder (Rancilio Rocky). Then I brew it on the very inexpensive (cheap!) US-made Aeropress. Excellent coffee.

We also have a Keurig that is used a fair bit. I use Starbucks French Roast. Wife often loads her own pods with fresh ground.

We just recently got a Nespresso Vertuo Plus machine. The "capsules" are costly and the coffee is better than the Keurig's, but not as good as ground fresh and made with the Aeropress.

Nespresso offers various types of coffees, espressos, and double espressos. The machine reads the bar code and adjusts the brew to suit. I laugh whenever I have an espresso... there's like a tablespoon of frothy coffee at the bottom of the cup. Not what I want when I want a "cup" of joe!

One thing I did learn with the Nespresso. That frothy stuff they show on top of coffees with those pretty patterns of palm trees, etc, are not froth from milk or cream. It's actually the "crema", the oils of the coffee grounds that have been emulsified in the very hot water and high pressure (the Nespresso uses a slightly pressurized brew method versus the Keurig system). I don't find the crema to be too appetizing.

This is all a long way from 25 years ago, before I got married and I was so pleased with my little 4-cup Krups drip machine, using Folgers or Maxwell House.

You can add cinnamon and or cocoa powder to the coffee when you brew it, I have done this before and loved it.
