We still do, not in a can. Wife had to pay $$$$ when we put a free one in the trash.

Wish I still had my mom's.  Hers had a red handle.  Many a times pulling out my hand electric one is just too much trouble.

I think this is what was used to pull nails out of horse shoes???

 You pushed it in, it got hot, you pulled it out and lit up.

It's a small oil can to use on things like sewing machines and stuff around the house.

I still use the one my father gave me.  Around 30 years ago, the tab popped off, so I attached a safety pin to the tip.

And yes,, I have more modern tools with which to measure length, but this still comes in handy!

My grandfather had one. I don't remember how far you could measure but I know it was a long long way.

I kind of remember ball coaches using it to measure the ball field??
