Only one kid had a tv in the small town I grew up in. Every day after school it was a mad dash to his house. He was King of the Hill and he made sure you didn't forget.

omgoodness! Reminds me of our house; the only one on the block with color TV ๐Ÿ˜‰

Imagine 1964 Kansas City, my house, hosting a dozen 10-year-old "ladies" for The Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show" (swooning now even remembering 60 years ago...)

WAIT, WHAT? The show was black and white? WAIT! WAH, WAH, WAH (for about 3 seconds then back to the perhaps 24 inch screen).

Visualize the jumping, screaming, tears and joy...

Then, then, Mr. Sullivan announced they'd be back in color later that month... confusion and hope surrounded us as the parents collected their daughters (following their dry martini gathering in the front room), as we begged for a do-over ๐Ÿ˜‰

โ€ฆ..I smiled when I read thisโ€ฆ.I am a bit younger and can vaguely remember the young tween girls in the neighborhood being all aflutter about the Beatles being on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Five year old me?  I was only ever excited when Topo Gigio was on ! ๐Ÿ˜‡

      Thanks for the memory,

Do you remember him having Elvis on and them not showing from waist down? I mean they just shut down the bottom half of the screen.

My grandmother thought Elvis was straight from the devil, until he recorded an album of gospel song for his mother (?), from then on she thought he was Heaven Sent. Old people sure had strange ideas back then, not like us modern old people.

Ha, ha... fortunately my Mom LOVED Elvis the Pelvis and thought he was too sexy for we young ladies ๐Ÿ˜‰

Funny, about 15 years later as we were at the old homestead (Sis and I) preparing for family gathering, blasting out Rod Stewart, who do we catch sashaying around the kitchen to "Do ya' think I'm sexy..."?

Your guess ๐Ÿ˜‰

Absolutely; always white gloves, mantilla in place, skirts below the knee. But somehow as young as 10 I wondered how Jesus in his sandals and scraps robe would judge me if not white gloves ad mantilla...

When I lost my faith 01-Oct-2017, fell to my knees not knowing if my daughters were alive or not, and waited, I knew Jesus wouldn't care I was in my Ozzy T-shirt and warm socks; he knew we needed him and he was there; no dress code...

Your right, he is there for us no matter what, when or where. He also touched what was considered a lot of unclean people.

I'm talking about the respect you show when you go to visit a person at their house.

You said lost, I do hope that is a time passed, and a new word is to be used today.

โ€ฆWhat you wrote reminded me of a passage in Samuel.  That man sees the outward appearance, but that God sees the heart.

I appreciate that you shared this with all of us - truly.  And yes, throughout the course of my life, with its ebbs and flows of personal belief, he has heard me too.

Still do. Mother taught me that you wore the best you had when you went to visit the Lord. I'm not real crazy about the dress codes at churches these days.

25% of the women look like they are going too or coming from a honky tonk. At least that amount of men look like they are fixing to tee off.

When our pastor (never a tie) lets one of the younger ministers give the sermon about half of them were t-shoes. I don't care how much they cost, they are t-shoes.

I know, old fashion and out of touch.๐Ÿ˜€

Well, if you are old-fashioned and out of touch, then so am I! ๐Ÿ˜€. I found myself nodding in agreement at what you wrote! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I recently attended a service where the Pastor preached while wearing a zip front hoodie and T-shoes.  I found it very off-putting that he was dressed in clothes Iโ€™d only wear gardening or walking.  Iโ€™ll admit that I felt guilty feeling this way, and internally chastised myself.

I agree with you.  I feel it is a matter of  (if you have chosen to attend a service) respecting that the Church is a place of reverence and significance.

Don't feel bad about how you feel. The Bible says to give your best to the Lord and I take that to also mean how you come to him. God told Abraham to give his best. God told the Jews that their sacrifices were sick and lame, and they were sent into slavery for allowing it to happen. I don't know how much cleared it can be made that he expects our best.

My sister n law who is an ordained minister puts' it this way. What would you wear if you were going to a State Dinner at the White House? Lot of people need to answer that question while getting dressed for church.

Oh yes!
White patent leather shoes with buckles, dress with a crinoline slip underneath, white gloves and a hat or chapel veil from Easter until Labor Day.

A hassock, footstool, ottoman, or pouf. My parents used them to prop up their feet, or to place their knitting needles and yarn project, even newspapers. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. Forgot about the cats... definitely made for cats. lol
