Why did AARP support UHC increase 06/24

I understand healthcare costs have increased, however to dupe citizen's into buying a supplemental healthcare plan then changing the terms of agreement and increasing the monthly premiums mid-year sets a precedent that is fraudulent. As a company who puts their name behind an insurance career, I hope you will re-evaluate your allegiance with United Healthcare.

=========================

Your agreement with them states when they will raise premiums?  Where?

They may say that your premiums will be adjusted every year at a certain time because of the declining discount going down ever year but past that there are so many other reasons why they would increase -

  • the cost of medical care,
  • added coverage under Medicare to which the insurer would also be exposed to added cost,
  • changes in state laws on guaranteed issue matters or coverage of those under age 65 on SSDI.

ALL of these things and more affect your premiums for a Medigap plan.

AARP does not have any say in the running of Medicare Insurance plans.

But letโ€™s say they did and they advertised that their sponsored plan would take you regardless of health condition at any time - how high do you think your premiums would be if such existed.

You have no guarantee on the premium cost of Medigap plans - they are financial protection plans not health care plans.

Why is your complaint not with the program of Medicare - it is the program of traditional Medicare that does NOT have an annual or even a lifetime maximum out of pocket cost.

Now you see why so many beneficiaries (about 50%) opt for Medicare Advantage plans rather than the Traditional Medicare - those on MA plans can change their coverage every year if need be.
