Dear Elaina @Elaina1965 , losing a child is NOT something a parent plans on.

I worry about this daily after losing her father to COVID.

I wish I could take your pain away dear friend.

We do have two wonderful & caring AARP Experts Jane @JaneCares and Amy @agoyer .

I am heading to send them BOTH a "copy" of your post.

They TOO have lost people they CARED about and had been there for OUR GROUP over the years.

Luv,

Nicole  🤗🤗🤗  (Grief Forum)

Hello, and welcome, Elaina. I am so sorry your daughter is not with you right now. Sixteen year is but a brief moment. My sister lost her first child to SIDS over 30 years ago. She went on to bear 3 more children. Now she's about to become a grandmother for the first time, and she's desperately fearing this new generation, this new precious child, will die as her first born did. Unlikely. Irrational. So what. Still painful.

We carry our loved ones in our hearts, and in our lives. We honor those we knew on this earth and who are no longer visible, but still alive in our memories, in pictures, perhaps in interests we share that we honor them with as we enjoy those same interests.

Grief gives us compassion for others. It allows us to know that other people have pain, too, and we can be gentle with each other.  I am sorry you come by this knowledge and loss in such a way. Your daughter was so loved.

This is a quiet group much of the time, but we are all survivors of this acute terrible grief. And there is no timeline, no shoulds. You are welcome here.

Jane
