How to Stay Peaceful

Hi, im Emma.   I was married for 50 years.  But in year 2023, he passed away.  He was 15 years older which worked for me in the beginning because he was like a father to me. This relationship allowed me to finish college while he instantly took the role as stepfather of my 3 daughters with ease and care.  We got along fine navigating my life style and his as well.  But dementia set in and he became bitter and argumentative.  I prayed so many prayers to stop his cruelty and to see me as his wife.  He saw me as an  enemy instead. My prayers were intentional and direct to God that he'd give me peace and not sickness.  Today, I am living in that peace and comfort.  Praying faithfully has cause less tension on the trials of life and have given me more time to take care of me.

Emma, I'm sorry for your loss. Dealing with those personality changes is emotionally and physically draining. And of course very hurtful. It helps to understand that the body and it's faculties don't last forever. Detachment is a great tool. A good counselor can help you with this. It's very challenging dealing with a loved ones illness and the aftermath. It's good you stop by here and share how you're feeling. Many here have gone through the same. Please stop by often. You'll feel better leaving a bit of grief here each time.
