i live in Wash. state. I am trying to find out who i can talk to about my situation pertaining medicaid. someone who is very knowledgable on the rules and regulations about it. Because of my wife's health problems, she may need to have 24/7 assisted help. I need to find out what is needed to be done before we get to that point. Hopefully AARP has someone that can help. Thanks you.
You are doing the right thing @RobertQ887311 to become knowledgeable on the subject now -
I am not an AARP spokesperson but I can get you started. It is your state if Washington that is gonna know their rules of Medicaid and LTC whether in home or in an institution.
In Washington State, there are several government agencies that help you. So 1st I am just gonna give you their names so that you can just understand their roll.
Department of Social and Health Services = DSHS
Home and Community Services = HCS
Aging and Disability Services Administration = ADSA
Here is a booklet from the Washington State DCS on just your question that you can reference cause it covers a lot of the how, why and how to’s- from home care to residential care under Medicaid.
You will need to contact the Washington State Dept. of Social and Health Services for eligibility criteria and application.
This page (on the left) has other info that could prove beneficial
Work with them on what you need to do to get your wife eligible for Medicaid depending upon your financial situation and need.
Good Luck
