Good morning to all, just asking if people think it is a good move to move from Central NY to Nebraska? I am 64 and my wife is 61. Just want to get out of NY. Just asking since I am sure there are people that either live in Nebraska or have lived there and I am just asking for their thoughts.
Thank you
Randy Spencer
As others have mentioned, try it out for a year or so, see the 4 seasons. If the community you are considering has the amenities you desire, if the cost of living works for you, and don't forget you may be starting Medicare while there. Every community in the US is different in what is available. You can't compare it whatever insurance you currently have as Medicare will change all that whether in NY or NE or anywhere in between. Maybe the local chamber of commerce in the community you are looking at can provide answers. Since you are almost Medicare and your spouse is not, check into what medical coverage you can get for each of you.
One thing you might do is take an extended vacation to the place you have in mind. Just because some ladies friend that you don't know likes it doesn't mean anything.
If you are wanting to get away from it all why not look at one of the states that only has 3 electoral votes. Lot less people and lot more land in those states.
Hi Randy!
My friends moved from Hoboken to Norfolk, Nebraska four years ago.
They are very very happy there.
They pay a little over two thousand a year in local taxes for a 3 bed, 2 bath home on half an acre! I’m sure that you’ll both appreciate that - as I surely do being that I live in NW New Jersey! 😉
Norfolk has a small town feeling and a great local hospital. Another bonus is that their average annual snowfall is around 2 feet, which is just a tad over what NYC gets. I mention this because my friends had originally considered NH due to the fact that it has no state taxes, but changed their minds because of the extended winters “up there”.
They tell me that the pace is more relaxed in Nebraska - which is just what they were looking for.…..hope this helps and good luck with your search!
