Looking for a roommate or room?

Hello everyone,

Not that I'm expecting to find a room or roommate here. Although you never know.

I thought I'd check with other seniors if they have any advice on how to find a room or maybe even a senior roommate.

Or maybe even if the AARP membership could help in this regard?

For starters, I'm aware of the 55+ communities. And am even currently living in one. But would probably have to either move out or find a roommate due to its rising cost.

Thanks!

Not sure if you’re still looking for a roommate. But here is a really great group that might be able to help you out in Atlanta.

  • Silvernest: A popular home-sharing platform that provides background checks, identity verification, and lease-creation tools.
  • Senior Homeshares: A national non-profit service that uses an algorithm to match seniors with extra space to those seeking affordable housing.
  • Roommates.com (Senior Section): Specifically pairs people over 55 based on schedule, pets, and living habits.
  • Roommates4Boomers: Catered specifically to female baby boomers looking for housemates in a similar life stage.

Community & Local Options
If you prefer more traditional or community-based methods, consider these avenues:
  • Active 55+ Communities: Check community bulletin boards in local Del Webb or similar developments, as residents may be looking to share their homes.
  • Town Senior Services: Local Parks and Recreation departments or senior centers often maintain lists of individuals interested in shared housing.
  • Facebook Groups: Look for local "Greensboro Rentals" or senior-specific groups like Colively, which focuses on social women aged 65+.
  • HomeShare Online: A broad platform that many seniors use to find long-term, compatible roommates.

Hello,

I'm 56 and returning the U.S. for government work in upstate New York. I'm a female veteran looking for a room or roommate for a short period. I'm asthmatic and without pets.

It depends. Why? Are you looking for one yourself? Where are you from?

I think religious institutions might be able to assist as well as local senior service groups and the non profit national shared housing resource center which has a website and listing by state   https://nationalsharedhousing.org/program-directory/

You’re welcome. I hope you’re finding good options. I also found this site for seniors to share housing. Seems free to browse.  https://www.silvernest.com/pricing
