SO FRUSTRATED!
I've had AARP Hartford for my auto insurance for years - no problem. I was under contract to buy a new home and needed a homeowner policy - which they added and bundled - still no problem. Both accounts showed up in my portal.
The home purchase blew up so it was cancelled. Went under contract on another home and contacted them to set me up with a policy for that property. In order for me to set up an account with them online I needed to do so with a DIFFERENT Email because they could no longer merge them into one online account. Around and around I went with 5 different people. I am still employed as an IT professional - quite versed in the technical aspects of what they were talking about -- and still got nowhere. The last person I spoke with agreed with me and said she was sorry -- I told her "You're telling me that some senior citizen who has one email address now has to create another one (if they even know how to) in order to make your system work for them?" -- "Pretty much" was the response I got. Obviously they are losing my business. Completely idiotic. Heads up y'all.

Good Grief
That is the reason why I deal with an independent insurance broker who can handle any “weird” insurance situations - tech oriented or otherwise. These reps on the other end of the line - phone or online - aren’t even captive agents - they are only a customer service with limited knowledge on the problem(s) or how to correct or work around the problems. An independent agent that has worked with an insurance company for years has built liaisons and knows who to contact to get stuff done.
Yes, seems simple - to cancel one home insurance contract and develop a new one and transfer any funds already paid over.
The other thing about using an independent agent is that they aren’t captive and can write for many different companies - some of which have better coverage than others to fit your insurance needs.
Eileen @eileenm631750 , did you stay with Hartford? Take care, Nicole 👵

I am now working with an insurance broker who has found me comparable coverage and am changing carriers -- another interesting finding that AARP/Hartford does not even give us discounts - as their costs are the same as going outside of AARP. Very disappointing.
Good for you Eileen @eileenm631750 !!! I have Allstate and my daughter, Progressive. Take care, Nicole 👵
