Long time employee

I have worked for the same company for 35  years.  I have recently been looking to make a lateral move within the company to an office closer to my home.  I have applied for several positions but have not even been granted an interview.  When speaking with others, I have discovered that the reason is not that I am not qualified for the job, but that my salary is higher is higher than newer employees.  I am really frustrated and not sure what to do.
