SSA.gov Terms of Service 2025

At login to my SSA.gov account recently I was asked to agree to the Terms of Service. I have logged in before, probably in 2024, but do not recall this requirement.  I am concerned about terms that seem to free SSA from responsibility should my data be mis-used, so I have not yet agreed and therefore cannot access the site.  

Is everyone being asked this at login? Most of the terms are reasonable but the last seems to be a carte blanche:

" I agree that the Social Security Administration is not responsible for the improper disclosure of any information that the SSA has provided to me or any information that is on or from my computer or other device, whether due to my negligence or the wrongful acts of others." 

What is the general opinion or AARP advice about this matter? Thanks.

What does it matter?  If you want access to your mySocial Security Account, you have to agree to the Terms of Service every time you log in -  

Print it out if you are worried about what it says - it is the normal government legal speak - just like others within other government programs.  All of the government sites have it if you are accessing your own information.  

 

I haven’t checked word-for-word but there has been a Terms of Service acceptance button on the site for a very long time - I changed my login in early 2024 and it was there then.  Yes, you had to even then accept it before you got thru to your own account.  

 

Like I said, it is like this on all government sites where you are accessing information that is personal in nature- whether just for (1) or multiple sign ins

  • Terms and Conditions: By accessing the site, you agree to the Terms and Conditions. 
  • Credential Service Providers:
    • Login.gov: Is a one-government account for simple, secure, and private access to participating U.S. government agencies. 
       
    • ID.me: Is a single sign-on provider that meets the U.S. government's online identity proofing and authentication requirements.

[Monday 3/24/25] @lg9301373 , I am trying to remember (Senior Moment) IF when I LAST logged in I encountered this situation.

 

When I have some time, I will "log" in. Thanks for the heads up.

 

fyi:  AARP never responds ON THIS SITE about Social Security but do "publish" articles on their main website. Maybe they will address this situation now that you posted about it.

 

Meanwhile, NOT having "access" to YOUR account does NOT sit well with me.  😤

 

But it is what it is like THIS SITE = if we want to use these two sites, whether we agree or not with their setup - we are stuck with it.
