We just started Medicare and received an IRMAA penalty for 2023 when my wife was still working full time. She is now retired. Somewhere I was told that I can file form SSA-44 and get the penalty reduced since we no longer have that income. Is that correct?
Yes, IF the reason for the IRMAA Part B premium was because of your wife’s income, then she has a reduction of income as her life event and filing a SSA-44 will indicate this and the amount will be removed or reduced whichever maybe the case based on income after this adjustment.
