How I got my retirement application approved in 10 minutes after waiting for over 3 month

 I'm seeing posts all over the internet about people waiting 2 , 3, 4 months after applying for SS Retirement Benefits. I had also waited over three months, web site always said processing.

I finally called my local field office and asked them about my application, explaining it's been over three months with no updates. The lady at the field office asked me for my information, looked in her computer, then told me I would need to call another number to ask about my application. I asked her if I do call this number, will they be able to tell me where they are in the application or would they just tell me it's in processing... which I already know.

The lady in my field office said "Well, I can tell you this, they haven't processed your application at all... even now with our delays, that doesn't sound right."

She gave me a number to call to reach the person who had my application (NOT the regular SS Customer Service Nightmare Number), gave me a Unit Code and the name of the person my application was assigned to.

I called that number and had a person answer and I told them I had spoken to my field office and they had given me this number, Unit Code, and the name of the person who has my application.

The lady, before transferring me, asked me for my information and my story, clicked away in her computer, then told me that she has no idea why my straight forward simple application hadn't even been touched.

She had me hold for about 30 seconds, came back to me and said "I'm approving your application right now. You'll see $#,###.## amount (back payments for three months) in your bank account in 2 to five days and your regular deposits will begin August 27. So I received a deposit for three months back payments right away, and will get another deposit of my regular payment in a three weeks.

As a HUGE added bonus, I have a 16 year old son. She told me to call my field office to sign him up for his benefits... I didn't even know that was a thing. He'll get 50% of what I would have gotten if I had waited to enroll at my full retirement age (I'm 62). So he will be getting a check for about $1900.00/month until he turns 18. So that lady on the phone at the SS Office made me (my son) over $50,000.00 just by saying..."Oh, by the way..."

Overall, I'd say it was a productive phone call!!!

If I had not called, God knows how long it would have taken. After calling, I was all set in 10 minutes (not counting the 30 minute hold time).

Just thought I share so maybe people who in the same "waiting limbo" may be helped out like I was.

Start with a call to your local Social Security Field Office and explain your situation. Hopefully you'll all get the help and results that I did.

Good Luck

@JoeL36582

Sounds like you hit the jackpot - So for the earning of (1) who is retiring at the early age of 62 - you get your reduced benefit and your son get his full auxiliary benefit until he gets out of HS or age 19 whichever one is 1st.

Now if you have a spouse her benefit can be added in there too if the spousal is more than their earned benefit, if they have one.

Government certainly has great math skills.  Don’t ya think?  Be a good steward because come 2032 or there about it might get reduced according to the Actuaries.  But who care, right?

IT‘S ALWAYS SOMETHING . . . . .. . . .
