FYI: Social Security Administration - CALENDAR OF WHEN BENEFITS ARE PAID 2025

This is the Social Security Calendar for 2025 benefits payments -

This is normally the date that SSA pays the benefits but it could show up in your bank account a day or so before or after depending on if it is a holiday.

SSA.gov - Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments 2025

The footnotes at the bottom of the page will tell you when to expect your monthly benefit in 2025 based on your birthday if only receiving a Social Security Benefit -

either the 2nd, 3rd or 4th WEDNESDAY if the month,

If receiving only Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or a combination of SSI and Social Security it is paid on either the 1st or the 3rd of the month depending on the actual benefit type you are getting.

That's a good calendar reference.

I've been getting direct deposit into my Canadian bank for 2 years now. It's scheduled to be on the third of each month (usually comes 2-4 days earlier though) even though my "normal" day would be on the third Wednesday.

Recently, for some reason, I was trying to find the "official rule" about this third of the month rule and I just couldn't find it anywhere! One Google search led me to this AARP article (https://www.aarp.org/retirement/social-security/questions-answers/social-security-payment-schedule/) which mentions that "those who live abroad" get payment on the third, but there was no reference to an official or authoritative source.

Finally I found the rule in both the SSA Handbook and the SSA POMS (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.01/handbook-0121.html  and  https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/links/0202402201). It's just interesting to me as to how difficult it was to find this information. Though I think it might have been stated on the form I had to fill out for international direct deposit. This just shows how sometimes the SSA's clients have to dig really deep to get some answers.

Now, @fffred, you know that the Calendar of Benefits that I posted was only for the “norm” - and we all know that many people are outside that “norm” - Good thing you found that Handbook - it also says you can change the date too but why when it may just confuse all those employees that are now overworked, undertrained - let’s not confuse them more.

Government is really great at the art of confusion.

@GailL1   Understood about the Norm  I realize that I forgot to make the point that I had in mind: to point out two of the official documents that define "when" people will get their monthly benefit. Oops.
