The Songs About Getting Older

""Hope I die before I get old," sang 21-year-old Roger Daltrey in 1965โ€”and 43 years later, he's still singing it. Rock 'n' roll has always been invested in a Byronic cult of blazing youth and beautiful corpses. But as tyros have turned into reunion-tour warhorses, rockers have had to come to terms with the ironiesโ€”and the indignities and the gloriesโ€”of old age."

"Time" by Pink Floyd.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day.
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town.
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

When you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking;
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way that you're older.
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter; never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

The song is credited to every member of Pink Floyd but the lyrics were written by Roger Waters. Waters is a true lyrical poet like Bob Dylan and John Lennon. Dark Side of the Moon was on the Billboard charts for decades.
Thank you so much, covfefe, and good night!

Has anyone mentioned "Landslide" by Stevie Nicks yet or "When I'm 64" by The Beatles? Those were the first ones to come to mind.  Woman Very Happy

The singer would be Alan Jackson. Love that song. Typifies how with love present, growing old with some one you love isn't near as bad as it could be.

Young at Heart by Frank Sinatra beacause that's how I feel.  However, a close second is the Beatle's song "When I'm 64" because it's so funny, even though I'd have to think back a long way to remember being 64!

I like that one too. Joe South wrote a lot of good and memorable songs of the times.

Oh, this is a great song. I only heard it a couple of times then totally forgot about it. I remembered the other Joe South songs, but totally forgot about this one. Didn't realize how much I missed it, until now. Thanks for the post.
