Stressors/Pressures of Everyday Life

As Iโ€™m coming to two years of the worst times of my life, both personally and professionally, Iโ€™ve noticed there are a lot of rock songs out there that deal with the Stressors/Pressures of everyday life. I thought it would be a great topic to explore. Songs with pressure in the title are obvious, but Iโ€™m hoping this will bring out other, more subtle songs that address these issues. I will start with one of my all time favorites in this area-

This is a different song than the one you've been hearing. It's about someone who's been through a rough time, but fighting back.

Rise Up  -  Cliff Richard

Yeah, yeah
All my life I've been a dreamer
Some might say a lucky one, oh
For every dream come true, many come undone
But I know, yes, I know

Yesterday the clouds were darkest, yeah
I could not see the end of it, oh no
But something inside of me never learnt to quit
And I know, yes, I know

(Rise up) They're never gonna break me down
(Rise up) They're never gonna take me down
(Rise up) You know I'm gonna rise up feeling stronger
(Rise up) Even when the night is long
(Rise up) The light of love was burning strong
(Rise up) You know I'm gonna rise up even stronger

โ€As I walk through

This wicked world

Searchinโ€™ for light in the darkness of insanity

I ask myself

Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred and misery?โ€

I haven't thought of this song in literally decades.  I loved it then and now I have to find it so I can listen to it again.

"Alone Again (Naturally)"

       by Gilbert O'Sullivan

"Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally"

Takin' Care of Business

 BTO

You get up every morning from your alarm clock's warning
Take the 8:15 into the city
There's a whistle up above and people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty
And if your train's on time, you can get to work by nine
And start your slaving job to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed, look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day

I just went back through the list looking for this song, and didn't find it. It seems like such an obvious choice, maybe we all assumed it was listed! If I did overlook it, apologies!

Shine on you crazy diamond   Pink Floyd

This song addresses the stress of drugs, fame and mental illness on Syd Barrett, hence why the name of the song uses his initials. I read about him on Wikipedia, a tragic yet fascinating story of his life.
