Stressors/Pressures of Everyday Life

As Iโ€™m coming to two years of the worst times of my life, both personally and professionally, Iโ€™ve noticed there are a lot of rock songs out there that deal with the Stressors/Pressures of everyday life. I thought it would be a great topic to explore. Songs with pressure in the title are obvious, but Iโ€™m hoping this will bring out other, more subtle songs that address these issues. I will start with one of my all time favorites in this area-

"Eat for Two" by 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant

"Well, the egg man fell down off his shelf
All the good king's men with all their help struggled 'til the end for a shell they couldn't mend
You know where this will lead, to hush and rock in the nursery for the kicking one inside of me
I eat for two, walk for two, breathe for two now

When the boy was a boy, the girl was a girl, they found each other in a wicked world
Strong in some respects, but she couldn't stand for the way he begged and gave in
Pride is for men; young girls should run and hide instead
Risk the game by taking dares with "yes"
Eat for two, walk for two, breathe for two now"

Gangsta's Paradise. Coolio

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realize there's not much left
coz I've been blastin and laughin so long, that
even my mama thinks that my mind is gone
but I ain't never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
me be treated like a punk you know that's unheard of
you better watch how you're talking, and where you're walking
or you and your homies might be lined in chalk
I really hate to trip but i gotta, loc
As I Grow I see myself in the pistol smoke, fool
I'm the kinda G the little homies wanna be like
on my knees in the night, saying prayers in the streetlight......

This is about the pressures our world currently shares from the CoronaVirus.  These are from the worldwide internet, and it's beautiful to see our countries coming together...in peace and hope.

A Brighter Day. Doobie Brothers

"Tom Johnston comes up with some interesting stories when he's writing lyrics - this is the guy who brought us the sheriff with a Samurai Sword in "China Grove." Describing this song, he told us: "'A Brighter Day' is about a young guy who has the gift of being able to tell the future and see things returning, called second sight, which I believe is an old southern Louisiana term. It's an old blues term, is what it is. Then all the newsies go down to ask him what he sees, and he proceeds to tell them that mankind is screwing up by going to war all the time, and they need to talk more. It's kind of like the new version of 'Listen To The Music.' It's how the positive would trump the negative if people got together, talked, and used music and things like that as a base."

Funny thing, this song popped into my head today for some reason. It seems to fit this category, so here it is - - -

Bits & Pieces - The Dave Clark Five

Since you left me and you said goodbye
(I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)
All I do is sit and cry
(I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)
You went away and left me misery
(I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)
And that's the way it'll always be

Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?

Wake up everybody by Harold Melvin&the Bluenotes

"Wake up everybody no more sleepin' in bed

No more backward thinkin' time for thinkin' ahead

The world has changed so very much

From what it used to be

There is so much hatred war an' poverty

Wake up all the teachers time to teach a new way

Maybe then they'll listen to what you have to say

'Cause they're the ones who's coming up and the world is in their hands

When you teach the children teach 'em the very best you can"......

Rescue Me - Daughtry

Rescue me in the middle of the ocean
Crashing down, it's always hard to breathe
Some say, it's hard to make the changes
Rescue me and I'll never be the same
Rescue me in the middle of my darkest hour
Time will tell I never really had the power
Some say, it's easier to give up on it
I say, it's time to rescue me
