Stressors/Pressures of Everyday Life

As I’m coming to two years of the worst times of my life, both personally and professionally, I’ve noticed there are a lot of rock songs out there that deal with the Stressors/Pressures of everyday life. I thought it would be a great topic to explore. Songs with pressure in the title are obvious, but I’m hoping this will bring out other, more subtle songs that address these issues. I will start with one of my all time favorites in this area-

Down In The Boondocks: Billy Joe Royal (he's from the wrong side of town; he's in love with his [rich] boss's daughter; he's saving money to be acceptable to her father; until then they steal away to be together; quite a recipe for stress).

And written by Joe South . . .

Several songs that South wrote have similar social themes running through them that include trying to deal with the problems caused by social disparity or social expectations. So while I'm on my JS trip today, I'll add these to the list.

Games People Play

These Are Not My People

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

I Knew You When

Birds Of A Feather

All My Hard Times

Walk A Mile In My Shoes

And most notably, this one -

Broken Wings - Mr Mister

Didn't know this until I looked it up just now. It's about the band recovering from cocaine addiction.

"I've Got to Save Myself"  by Ed Sheeran

"Life can get you down so I just numb the way it feels
I drown it with a drink and out-of-date prescription pills
And all the ones that love me they just left me on the shelf
No farewell
So before I save someone else, I've got to save myself"
