SONG TITLES and SONGS about DISTANCES & TRAVEL
I'll try to get this topic started with these song titles about DISTANCES/TRAVELING ...........
*Travelin' Man Ricky Nelson which made it to #1 in 1961
*I Ran (So Far Away) Flock of Seagulls
For a different approach, songs about DISTANCES/TRAVELING...........
*Walk Away Renee' The Left Banke
*Ferry Across The Mersey Gerry & The Pacemakers
Uh, I am sorry if I led off with songs which you may have wanted to post here. How about this....wait a while and then post it....or post it now ! You see, repetition is OKAY
Please understand, there's lots of freedom and latitude with this topic. Be creative....let's have plenty of laughs and plenty of wows like: "Wow, I wish I had thought of that one!!" "Wow, that's a good one!!

Wolf to the Moon - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Swear that I'll catch it someday
Lights of the city behind are fading away
Makin' my way through the names on the map
No point in feeling alone
As long as I ride the open road
I'll always have a home
Slave to the highway
King of the road

A favorite of mine (and I sang it as a square dance caller):
"When I Stop Leaving (I'll Be Gone)" Charley Pride
And two from a band that was pretty popular for a while. I sang the first, but would have loved to sing the second, too:
"Ride The Train" and "Roll On, 18 Wheeler" Alabama
And I may as well toss in (loved and sang): "Midnight Flyer" The Eagles

@1968Hoya46 Now you have me thinking about traveling songs I used to use when I called square dances. Howsa bout some of these (I'll give the titles with the singers who inspired the square dance singing calls):
"Early Morning Rain" Gordon Lightfoot
"I Think I Feel a Hitchhike Coming On" Larry Jon Wilson (First singing call I ever did.)
"When I Stop Leavin' (I'll Be Gone)" Charley Pride
"Freight Train" Elizabeth Cotton (and covered by a bazillion folks)
"Roll, Truck, Roll" Red Simpson
"Six Days On The Road" Dave Dudley
"East Bound and Down" Jerry Reed
"On The Road, Again" Willie Nelson (This became such a common standard that I changed it: "On the Road Again, I can't wait to sing "On the Road, Again"....." 😉 )
"Detroit City" Bobby Bare
And, of course, because it was such a fun challenge to do:
"I've Been Everywhere" Johnny Cash (And yes, I could name all the cities.)
Thanks for the reminder. Giving you the credit. And the blame. 😉 Have an amazing day!

R&B SONGS ....These are songs that relate to LOVE. Perhaps to find your love, or to travel to find yourself...
1...... HIGHWAYS OF MY LIFE ..... THE ISLEY BROTHERS
2. .....BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX ....ISSAC HAYES
3. .....DISTANT LOVER ....MARVIN GAYE
4. .....MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO GEORGIA .... GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS
5.......HOLLYWOOD ..... RUFUS: FEAUTURING CHAKA KHAN
I could go on, there are so many more... because I have a music collection that could right now make me the most sought after 'OLD SKOOL DIVA DISC JOCKEY' on the planet...I'm just saying...SMH & LOL But I bet I made a lot of you think and say ... ''yeah''...What about Smokey's Going to a Go-Go...hey, in my book, that's considered traveling! Sneaking out on Friday and Saturday night, to go to the suburbs of Chicago, or on my 'stompping grounds' to dance the night away at those Red Light Basement quarter parties! You were willing to pay the price when/if you got caught coming in. I MADE YOU THINK and TOOK YOU BACK to a time like no other...
PEACE, LOVE & SOUL !
