SONG TITLES and SONGS about DISTANCES & TRAVEL
I'll try to get this topic started with these song titles about DISTANCES/TRAVELING ...........
*Travelin' Man Ricky Nelson which made it to #1 in 1961
*I Ran (So Far Away) Flock of Seagulls
For a different approach, songs about DISTANCES/TRAVELING...........
*Walk Away Renee' The Left Banke
*Ferry Across The Mersey Gerry & The Pacemakers
Uh, I am sorry if I led off with songs which you may have wanted to post here. How about this....wait a while and then post it....or post it now ! You see, repetition is OKAY
Please understand, there's lots of freedom and latitude with this topic. Be creative....let's have plenty of laughs and plenty of wows like: "Wow, I wish I had thought of that one!!" "Wow, that's a good one!!

@rc8149 - Side note: "Never Goin' Back" (actually sung by Joe Butler) was written by one of my favorite songwriters: John Stewart - member of the Kingston Trio and a prolific artist. Amazing body of work - he also wrote "Daydream Believer" for the Monkees. May he rest in peace.

Oh yeh, I agree. Are you familiar with "Younger Generation"? Tender, humorous and insightful.
I wish I had a tie-dyed denim jacket like he wore at Woodstock 🙂
His songs were very mellow usually, like "Magical Connection", "How Have You Been" and "She's A Lady". Yes, I miss John Sebastian too, but I have his musical legacy in my collection.

Do you believe in magic--( I do, But my imagination gets in the way)
Did you ever have to make up your mind.. (everday occurance)
And who don't remember Mr. Kotter, Mr.Kotter------ Welcome back
Again, these are what memories are made off.....

"Gotta Travel On" - Billy Grammer (and a host of others)
"Traveling Minstrel Man" - Bobby Bare
"When I Stop Leaving, I'll be Gone" - Charley Pride
"Think I Feel a Hitchhike Coming On" - Ray Whitley
"Roll, Truck, Roll" - Red Simpson
"East Bound and Down" - Jerry Reed
"Ride the Train" - Alabama
"Sweet Melinda" - John Denver
"I've Been Everywhere" - Hank Snow
All have special meaning to me. Not only as traveling songs, but as songs I sang when I called square dances.

"Jamaica Farewell", written by Lord Burgess and sung most memorably by Harry Belafonte.
"Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top,
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop..."

If we want to get into the REALLY old oldies, how about "Come, Josephine, in My Flying Machine" and "In My Merry Oldsmobile"? (Ah, the good old days of "Sing Along with Mitch"...) By the way, "Merry Oldsmobile" got an update when the Olds 442 first came out.

@rp13943674: I would be curious as to which was the "A" side of the single (Deadwood Stage / Secret Love by Doris Day). Secret Love is the better known of the two songs.

Not sure--I suspect my copy was originally part of a soundtrack set (can't get at it right now to check; we're doing some remodeling, and my 78s are in storage out of harm's way!) But I'd think "Secret Love" was probably what we'd call the "A" side, since it was by far the more popular of the two. But I may be wrong; after all, Patti Page's "Tennessee Waltz" was the "B" side of "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus" (??!?!)
