ROCK versions of Classical Music

I love rock and I love classical music. There are many rock versions of classical music. Many different bands have done the same piece.

So, what are some of your favorites?

I have tons, but here are a few.

1. Titles to numerous to mention -- Trans-Siberian Orchestra

2. Sabre Dance ( Khachaturian ) --  Dave Edmunds

3. Hall of the Mountain King ( Grieg ) -- Electric Light Orchestra

Admittedly a stretch but...

It's Now Or Never:   Elvis

The music is based on the Neapolitan classic "O Sole Mio". Elvis had two American songwriters compose the lyrics for his recording. While not pretending to be Pavarotti, Elvis did a nice job on this record, evolving nicely from his Heartbreak Hotel days.

@1968Hoya46  We had some interesting topics the past couple of years with many people staying at home. Seems we’ve all tried to entertain ourselves and each other!

Bridge To Heaven - Uli Jon Roth & Klaus Meine with Orchestra 1995

https://youtu.be/2zxDDDY5rAE

Music: Nessun Dorma / Turandot by Puccini

Lyrics: Uli Jon Roth

I’m a fan of Klaus, and I think he is one of greatest singers in rock, but even my jaw dropped when he sang this song set to such a famous aria. Uli Roth is a classically trained musician, known for his Hendrix inspired guitar work with Scorpions in the 70’s. The guitar he plays is one he invented called Sky guitar. He designed it specifically to play notes that are written for violins.

Difficult To Cure - Rainbow with Orchestra

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony

This was recorded with orchestra in Japan because the Japanese audience was the only one that would stop making noise during the performance. They are very polite. So we have to thank Japan for this!

Writing On The Wall - Blackmore’s Night

https://youtu.be/_cxpXXYcHO4

Borrows heavily from Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky, so much so that Blackmore gave him songwriting credits.
