LAST LINES

We’ve done First Notes and Opening Lines so

it’s time to do Last Lines. What are your most

memorable last lines of your fav songs? If

you’re so inclined, tell us why also 🎼💜

And in the end, the love you take

Is equal to the love you make”

The End, Fab 4️⃣

The final lines from this song from the incredible Abbey Road Medley have always resonated

to me in the deepest way. To me they represent

equality, purity, love and religion all wrapped up in one. This stands as one of the best last lines ever, imo 🎼💜

”A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes

As if to hide a lonely tear

My life will be forever autumn

‘Cause you’re not here”

Forever Autumn, Moody Blues

Anyone who’s ever lost a loved one knows

the pain, which never really leaves. This

song with its haunting lyrics sung by the

incredible Justin Hayward is one of my

favs of theirs 🎼💜

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you.

“You’ve had to struggle, you’ve had

to fight

To keep understanding and compassion

in sight

You could be laughing at me, you’ve got

the right

But you go on smiling so clear and

so bright”

Fountain of sorrow, Jackson Browne

Song was supposedly about his brief

relationship with Joni Mitchell. The

heartbreak mixed with optimism is

palpable. The whole album is amazing.

Another one I played to death 🎼💜

"But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be"

"Unwell" - Matchbox Twenty (these lines are the chorus)

About how we can feel like we are going crazy, being depressed, having anxiety, feeling strange with things that are going on and the hope/knowledge that things are going to get better.

And I don’t know what you expect

Staring into the TV set

Always wondered what this song was about.

David Byrne claims it’s a metaphor for

destroying something safe that has you

entrapped. Either way the lyrics are amazing.

I was obsessed with the video for months

If I could see you

If only I could see you

To see if you are laughing or crying

When the night winds softly blow

Anthem - Deep Purple

This is about a love lost. It isn’t clear but she may have died, as he seems to long for even her ghost to appear momentarily. Written by Rod Evans and Jon Lord, with a Ritchie Blackmore supplied guitar solo, it is a magnificent piece of Purples’ unique brand of 60’s progressive rock. 💜

”The questions of a thousand dreams

What you do and what you see

Lover, can you talk to me?”

Carry on, C,S&N

This song always reminded me of those

lost loves but also it is full of hope for

the future. They are such clever lyricists

and have beautiful harmonies as well.

I literally played this song every single

day after buying the album 🎼💜

"It's your world now
Use well the time
Be part of something good
Leave something good behind
The curtain falls
I take my bow
That's how it's meant to be
It's your world now"

"It's Your World Now" - Eagles  (2007 album - Long Road out of Eden)

Glen Frey and Jack Tempchin wrote the song. It's about looking back on your life and handing it to the next generation.  The Eagles posted the lyrics to this song with the announcement of Glen's passing 2016.

"Now there is this song I wrote
I hope you learned it note for note like good little children
Don't worry be happy
Listen to a what I say in your life expect some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry be happy be happy now"

Don't Worry Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin

...a bit long winded, but posted nonetheless.
This song recalls memories of Grampa.
First generation natural born U.S. Citizen. Earned a Degree in Mechanical Engineering by taking correspondence courses while serving in the Army Corps of Engineers. Remained active in the Army Reserves after accepting a unversity professorship. Built the house he and Gramma settled in, with his own hands. Built a Duplex next door with his own hands and rented to Grad Students. Built a vacation cottage with his own hands in Pass Christian Miss. at the mouth of the Bay St. Louis. Always had a remarkable ability to evaluate available, verifiable, empirical data and apply it to a practical preparedness plan. He furnished the cottage with salvaged appliances and furniture that he restored himself. The Cottage survived hurricane Camille (needed roof repair and a good cleaning). Even the barbeque grill made of two hinged, cast iron sinks attached to a welded metal, two wheeled cart survived the hurricane.
He was not the overtly jovial type, but a friend or loved one frustrated by the fickle hardships of life would get an encouraging, "Lache pas la patate ma cher" and practical help finding a way forward.

"Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
And how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind"

"Blowin' In The Wind"- Dylan

The whole song is timeless about humanity not seeing, not feeling, not being and not learning from life, beauty, nature and humanity.

"Parents fighting with their children And the Congress can't agree
Teachers and their students Are all jousting constantly
Management and labor Keep rattling old sabers
Quacking like those Peabody ducks
Math sucks (Quack, quack) Math sucks (Quack, quack)
You don't even have to spell it, all you have to do is yell it
Math sucks (Math sucks) Math sucks (Math sucks)
Sometimes I think that I don't know that much
But math sucks!"
....and then the outtro leaves no doubt about theme of the song.
