GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS

For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..

So do you have favorites?

What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

you made me so very happy. 🤪  Brenda Holloway.

Written by Brenda in 67, the rendition by BS&T got more popular in 69, but Brenda was happy about it, I'm sure.

"Whispering Your Name" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Jules Shear. It was originally performed by Ignatius Jones in 1983, however Shear also recorded the song, which was issued as a single within months of Jones' recording and included on his 1983 album Watch Dog. It has been covered numerous times, including a charting version by Alison Moyet in 1994. [WIKI]

Take Me Home - Little Big Town ft. Sugarland (Phil Collins cover)

https://youtu.be/LvJY7uhyZho?si=IkgBi53Iw0RvTDqB

This performance is from the recent CMT awards show. It has also been released as a single. They are planning a tour together. The harmonies are so amazing and beautiful. Hope they release an album together.

Nice rendition, music is a direct cop of Phil's original.

Loved Big Town's vocal. I thought Jennifer Nettles

vocal was lousy. Her barky style doesn't fit the song,

or it's meaning. For me, she have watched from the wings.

@jm2422  - You make a good point. I was watching the “live” broadcast, and noticed that she was overpowering the other singers. Everyone else sounds blended and balanced. I don’t dislike her voice, but I think that she could have use a little more restraint, FWIW.  🙃

Not too surprising that they would cover this song. It’s from their new album, Ghost Stories. But also from the new album is this one, which did surprise me.

From the 1992 breakthough film, "The Crying Game" comes 2 remakes that seem to be in a weird way about as good as the original.

Well, they might both be Jerry Garcia... But, the first one sounds more like a younger Jerry in the Grateful Dead. The second doesn't really sound like the GD. But, still a good song.

The first one is from his 1982 album, Run for the Roses, and the live recording is probably 1994. So yes, the latter was not long before he passed away in 1995.

This is an old German folk song. No idea what the origin/original is. But, here's an older version and a more recent version.

Day Pub Singers; Der Frohliche Wandersmann https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBVrEG185cE

Bill Staines; The Happy Wanderer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShmrIlBL8Yw

“The Happy Wanderer” (“Der fröhliche Wanderer” or “Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann”) is a popular song. The original text was written (in German of course) by Florenz Friedrich Sigismund (1791–1877). It was made famous by the Obernkirchen Children's Choir, in Germany named Schaumburger Märchensänger.

"Young £ove"  👩‍❤️‍👨  Sonny James {56}

A #1 country pop crossover hit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XadB_wm3ig&ab_channel=RichardCuster

One year later, teen idol Tab Hunter's pop cover also hit #1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4DmuIo9jJw&ab_channel=JanAddeo

Written and recorded by Ric Cartey and Carole Joyner in 1956 and Ric and his group The Jive Tunes, it never charted. And I like the raw original version cause it has that sound & feel of real sincerity.

Forever Young - Pretenders (Dylan cover)

This is my favorite Dylan song, and Chrissie Hynde’s cover is my favorite version. Her vocals are so beautiful and touching.

For a country twist, I like this one by Blake Shelton.

They are two different songs. Rod Stewart wrote his song with his band about his own children. (Dylan’s song was written for his son).

However, the structure of the lyrics was so similar to Dylan’s song that it was agreed to give Dylan a share of the songwriting credit and royalties from Stewart’s song. Both are great songs. I like the Stewart song, too. 😎
