GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS
For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..
So do you have favorites?
What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

You Win Again - Hank Williams (Sr) Cover by Steppenwolf
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qal2HIBX9Kg
In his autobiography, Kay wrote about learning to play guitar listening to Hank Williams records, and getting a HW Songbook. Country music was very popular in Toronto back then. I believe it was also covered by his earlier band, The Sparrows. He later put it on his solo album, Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes.

Love that soulful, raspy voice of his, and the change in tempo.

@jm2422 - Thanks! Turns out both links are the same recording, but one of them was on a Steppenwolf singles compilation album. I thought the band was really good. Two of them were from Steppenwolf (Kent Henry, lead guitar, George Biondo, bass). They did double duty in The John Kay Band, which supported Steppenwolf, as they toured together after John released the solo album.

Good time Charlieโs got the blues,The Bards,
released in 1968, was covered by Danny OโKeefe
in 1971. OโKeefe recorded it first but The Bards
released it first. In 1972 OโKeefe re-released a
slower version for his 2nd album. That was the
version that became a hit. Excellent cover by
OโKeefe, it was his only hit single ๐ผ๐

Cash covering Bono / U2?? I had to give it a listen. Sorry, but it's not working for me.
I'm either too much a fan of U2 or not really a fan of Johnny Cash, or both. ๐

Only the Lonely - Roy Orbison cover by Chris Isaak
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXoBMlNjT0s
Nobody covers Roy Orbison, and other songs of this era, like Chris Isaak! He's got the voice, and he's got the vibe. ๐

@BeatleloverKT - That's probably because the MM version is the one that everybody knows, and isn't thought of as a cover. I don't remember hearing the Springsteen original, but that was a long time ago. LOL ๐ Fantastic cover choice!
