GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS

For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..

So do you have favorites?

What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

Can't Believe You Wanna Leave  -  Little Richard cover by Ian Gillan & Roger Glover

Little Richard was Gillan's hero, along with Elvis. They inspired him to become a singer (per his autobiography). Actually, Little Richard inspired them all, including Elvis!

Nice pick Volta-I met him at the LA Song Writers Show Case in '96. Being honored as one of the true fathers of rock and roll. After a long list of his contributions to the industry and a five minute standing O, he told us to shut up, of course. That was Little Richard . Barely 5'5" tall, but a true giant, and icon. Size XXXXX large personality and talent. It was amazing meeting him.

@jm2422  -  Fantastic that you got to meet him! What a great experience that must have been.

Some other interesting trivia on LR . . . I read this in John Kay's autobiography. At one time, early 70's, he lived in the same building as LR, and met up with him in the elevator. Steppenwolf was having their hey-day at the time. LR told him that he had a great voice and he liked what he was doing. Kay said that he was stunned. He didn't think LR would even know who he was, much less have listened to his music! Like every other rocker, Kay greatly admired LR.

"I Want Candy"--originally recorded in 1965 by the Strangeloves, a group of 3 American men pretending to be Australians.  Their jungle pop sound was updated to new wave in 1982 by pop-punk English band Bow Wow Wow.  The Burmese-English lead singer,  14-year-old Annabella Lwin, gave the song a feminine twist.
