GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS

For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..

So do you have favorites?

What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

So, "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (John Denver) is a country song, right?  Or country pop.  The lyrics alone set it in stone; the song can't be anything else.

Except, some musicians don't see it that way.  And these different flavors of the song show just how powerful it is, how it can stretch and morph into other genres, and how it can mean so much to people who live thousands of miles from West Virginia, have never tasted moonshine, have never met a mountain mama.  It flabbergasts me that such a geographically defined song can fit into so many genres.

It was really fine until the Judas Priest version of the chorus.

OK, not great. Lacks finesse.

I was listening to Covers on Spotify this evening and I thought to myself, "Covers ... That'd be a good topic for the RnR forum!" But before I re-invethed the wheel, I searched and saw that the topic had already been created. It just isn't as active as some of the other ones, I guess. Anyway, here's a link to a playlist on Spotify of 70 songs (63 of them awesome, IMHO!) that you may enjoy too. Rock Covers from Spotify (CLICK THE BLUE) Playlist

Also, you don't need to be a member, you can listen for free. I do have a paid subscription though and that allows me to listen commercial free. I also have $10 less per month because of it but to me, it's worth it. 😊 If you're not familiar with Spotify, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you'll find there. Music, podcasts, even audiobooks. Have a look!

Great list of songs, but I don't know many of the artists. I'll give it a listen sometime. Thanks!

Beautiful tribute to Queen. Just Klaus and the pianist. Simple. Elegant. Classic.

Saw Bonnie 1st time, summer of '71 on The Common in Boston as a warmup for BB King and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. I was just getting my own music career started. Been in love with her voice and slide work ever since.

Appreciate you liking those two tunes. Think she kills it on both.

I'm not especially a blues fan, but I like Bonnie Raitt. She's perfect to cover Jackson Browne songs, and Angel From Montgomery is a classic. Never saw her in person, but she's been on Austin City Limits several times over the years. Always enjoyed her shows.

John Prine had performed that song with several different women vocalists. You might have a look on YouTube if you want to hear some other versions. It's a beautiful son though, I agree.

Yes, I agree he has. Emmy Lou Harris, I think even RoseAnn Cash. But nothing

quite as good as that rendition.

It's not Stevie, but it's still a real nice cover of a great song written by Stevie.

Can't Believe You Wanna Leave  -  Little Richard cover by Ian Gillan & Roger Glover

Little Richard was Gillan's hero, along with Elvis. They inspired him to become a singer (per his autobiography). Actually, Little Richard inspired them all, including Elvis!
