GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS

For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..

So do you have favorites?

What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

Black magic woman, 1969,  Fleetwood

Mac. The Mac did a respectable job with

this song  but the 1970 Santana cover

is where this song shines

Since we're on the subject of "Little Wing," here's Sting's version; and his bluesy "Wind Cries Mary" duet; and his rockin' version of "Purple Haze"

This may have been 'covered' here already, but I went 1/2 way and didn't find it, so....

The Jimi Hendrix song Little Wing.

Epically and majestically covered by Eric Clapton and [mostly] Duane Allman as Dominos,

came out a totally different song, raising it to the level of an anthem.

There's a youtube from back then, personally I like the studio version

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G5CJFrO2Oc

Covered as instrumental by Stevie Ray Vaughan, more true to original

Covered by Steve Vai, also more true to the original.

Covered by Pearl Jam straight up [called it Maggot Brain], mixed it into Yellow Ledbetter.

Others covered it as well. What other song was turned into 'a hit' by 4 of the greatest guitar players ever [ not to mention the vastly underrated Mike McCready ] ?

Liar, 1970, originally done by Argent.
Released the same year by Three Dog

Night. Never knew it was a cover. So

much prefer the Three Dog night version!

Speaking of great Three Dog Night covers, how about:"Eli's Coming",

their cover of Laura Nyro's great song. Absolutely great version.

Vocals on that cut jump off the record.

Giving them a shout out for bringing back one of the best rock songs ever! The show has a great band, too. Stellar musicians, all of them. Just great to hear this song again! . . . R&R forever!
