GREAT COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS

For many an original song that they love cannot and will not ever be duplicated by a cover, but there are many songs that have been done equally (debatebly) well by others..

So do you have favorites?

What are your favorite covers of favorite songs?

Great rendition, I'm sure Grace Slick, Jorma, Jack, and the rest would be very pleased.

I don't know if this counts. Simon & Garfunkel wrote this for another band and they never really played it themselvs:

Cyrcle; Red Rubber Ball

Correct, Paul Simon wrote the song with Bruce Woodley of The Seekers, but S&G never recorded it. They did sing it in concert where it was recorded and later added to a compilation album (Old Friends). This is from the 1967 concert at Lincoln Center.

The End Of The World was done by so many people; I don't know the original. But I like the Herman's Hermits version.

I've always liked Cake's version of I Will Survive LOLhairup.gif

The Communards covered Don't Leave Me This Way but I actually like Thelma Houston's version better.

When Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton did the Bee Gees' song Islands in the Stream as a duet, they really knocked it out of the park.

I don't feel either version is better than the other... they are so different they are different songs.  Love them both.

Dolly Parton is the author. She used to sing it every week to close her TV show. Whitney's beautiful rendition happened years later for the movie "The Bodyguard" which she starred in.

Not sure who is covering who, since Carole King originally wrote (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman for Aretha to record, and both of their versions are great in their own styles. But if you haven't seen this video of Aretha paying tribute to Carole at the Kennedy Center in 2015, you've gotta check it out: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XHsnZT7Z2yQ

I've always liked Crowded House's song, Don't Dream It's Over.  I recently heard a version by Diana Krall which is really good.

Simon & Garfunkel cover of the Everly Brothers song, Bye Bye Love  - from the 1970 album, Bridge Over Troubled Water. It's a perfect fit!
