FAVORITE MALE SINGERS OF ANY GENRE

Well, we can't leave the guys out can
we?  Who are your favorite male singers of any
genre?  I'm not talking bands here but solo artists.  Of
course, if they were in a band and also went solo you can still name
them such as Jon Bon Jovi or Richie Sambora both of whom are members
of the group Bon Jovi but have also gone solo.  Here's some of
mine from times past to the present:

Frank Sinatra,
Perry Como, Dean Martin, Brook Benton, Jerry Butler, Conway Twitty,
Johnny Cash, Charley Pride, Johnny Tillotson, Donovan,
Eddie Cochran, Gene McDaniels, Glen Yarborough, Neil Young, Bob
Dylan, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, Eric Clapton, and so many more.

You may also name
your favorite male singer from a band but not the band itself.
For instance, we all know that Diane loves the band Aerosmith
but she would say Steven Tyler.

  Hi

and thank you for that youtube post.

He made a lot of people happy with his music; sadly could not do the same for himself I guess.  I love that "unplugged" video of Kurt playing but sometimes I can barely stand to watch him do that last song.

Hi Diane,

I know what you
mean.  It's so sad to have lost someone so young and with so
much talent.  On a lighter note has anyone mentioned "Van
Morrison"?  This guy has so many great songs many of which
have been used in movies.  One of my favorites is "Into
the Mystic".

Today is the birthday of a member of Rock Royalty;  no not the King  or Sir Paul  but none other than Mick Jagger...the frontman of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

  • Born: July 26, 1943 in Dartford, Kent, England

  • Years Active: 1969-2008

  • Member of: The Rolling Stones

  • As the lead singer for the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger is one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock & roll. Jagger fronted the Rolling Stones for over 20 years before he began a solo career in 1985.      Hi

One of the things I like about the daily info in the Today in Rock and Roll is that it reminds you of artists and songs that you havn't thought about for a while.

Today it reminded me of Wilson Pickett who belongs here.  His songs were dancing songs!!!!

    .jpgwww.vh1.com/shared/media/images/sn_legacy/addict/AMG_images/artists/P02578.JPG" />

Of the major '60s soul stars, Wilson Pickett was one of the roughest and sweatiest, working up some of the decade's hottest dancefloor grooves on hits like "In the Midnight Hour," "Land of 1000 Dances," "Mustang Sally...

Wilson Pickett (March 18, 1941January 19, 2006) was an American R&B/Rock and Roll and soul singer and songwriter known for his raw, raspy, passionate vocal delivery. A major figure in the development of American soul music, Pickett recorded over 50 songs which made the US R&B charts, and frequently crossed over to the pop charts as well. Among his best known hits are "In The Midnight Hour" (which he co-wrote), "Land of 1,000 Dances", "Mustang Sally", and "Funky Broadway". The impact of Pickett's songwriting and recording led to his 1991 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

My daughter teaches pre-school at a Christian school.  She has toddlers.  Every year, at the end of the year, she puts individual pictures and little videos of each child, taken throughout the school year, on DVD for the parents.  So there, on DVD for them to keep for life, are pictures of their little one, as he or she grew through the year.  It is enough to bring tears to your eyes just as it is, but Megan adds music.  Last year, the music she added was "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas.  When that song is the background to those marvelous tiny moments of each child's life, it stays forever with you as something infinitey sweet.  I wish you could all see how marvelously they go together.  Those tiny faces and that lovely song.  Very special.  Not a single parent got those that didn't send amazing thank you notes.  It was a big hit.  This year, she usesd Louis Armstrong, "It's a Wonderful World."  Another big hit!

That's really great.  My girlfriend's daughter had down's syndrome and drowned in a swimming pool at the age of 5.  She made a DVD of her and added the song "I Will Always Think About You" by The New Colony Six.  Do you remember that one?

You are probably right.  I have a few CD's and some great photos of him that I took.  Haven't listened to him for awhile so I might have to drag them out again.  I could use some "Time, Love and Tenderness".

Oh, yeah!  That's one of my favorites.  I love the use of the gospel choir as backup.  Great.  And, true!  Nothing like time, love and tenderness..

If I remember correctly he took a lot of heat in the beginning for being good looks and not enough voice but I believe he proved them wrong.

Plus, he's sexy.  Even with his hair short.....

    :O)

Yes, he's definitely sexy.  Nicolette Sheridan sure thinks so.  She's gone back to him twice.  I have some great photos of Michael in concert.  I was in the third row.  I also have some pics of him at a charity baseball game here in Milwaukee.  I even have one of him getting kissed by Nicolette during the game.  That was the first time they were going together.

Michael Bolton at the 1990 Grammy Awards

Here's a favorite of mine.  Known for his soft rock ballads and tenor vocals Michael Bolton.

He's also a great songwriter.  He wrote "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You" for Laura Branigan who took it to #1 on the adult contemporary charts.  He then wrote "I Found Someone" for Laura who had a minor hit with it but Cher resurrected the song and her singing career with it two years later.  Michael went on to co-write more songs for these two singers.  He has also written songs for such artists as Barbara Streisand, Kenny G, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Rogers and Peabo Bryson.
