ART AND ROCK N ROLL

Hi

I read an article this
morning about an art show in Miami and the beginning of the
article made me think about all of the great art associated with
rock and music.  Album covers, concert posters, the
photography work of people like Linda Eastman McCartney and
thousands of others.

Think about it  and
lets talk : )

Isn't it amazing how different the artwork for these albums is..............

Some are beautiful and some are crazy and some are scary  etc.

This has been fun!

Diane

oh yea  and how about something a little different  : ) a HUGE classic

Maybe some of our Zep followers would like to add a little something about the origins for this cover and all of the stories about it  : )

Diane

Don't know much about Led Zeppelin since they are another of my hubby's favorites.  As I may have told you I was a top 40 kid.  Of course, I remember "Stairway to Heaven" (who doesn't-played at every wedding) and a few others but don't know much.  Perhaps someone can enlighten me.  Speaking of my hubby here's a record cover from one of his favorites "Frank Zappa".

Diane,

I have to be honest with YOU.  I don't remember ever seeing these album covers.  Only the ones where there is some sort of space design(?), ( which are most of their albums ),  and of course, my favorite songs would be the most popular ones like "Don't Stop Believin'', "Open Arms", "Faithfully", "Any Way You Want It" among others.

Have you seen and heard the new lead singer?  He's from The Phillipines and he sings almost exactly as Steve Perry!

Blanca

 Hi

Well all I can say is they have some beautiful album art.

Sometimes the artist is the art

Some artists become permanently associated with the musicians for whom they did album work.

For instance:

 Roger Dean

www.dangerousage.com/images/coverfragile.jpg" alt="" />

Alton Kelly and Stanley Mouse

Peter Max

And although not famous for album art, it's hard to think of the 80s concert scene without thinking of Wes Wilson

  Hi Vic

That Roger Dean is just beautiful.

Funny that I have never thought about these artists at all and all the while admiring their work.  Wonder how they paired up.  Who was famous first and who approached who : )

Yes, great

I remember "Tiger Beat" but I only looked at it at the drugstore or at slumber parties. I was never much of a "fan" personality. I liked the music and thought they were cute, but I didn't want photos of them on my walls. The Beatles Avedon photos were an exception because I liked them as art. Here's another Janis

Art was a big thing with album covers not so much with CD's. I loved the cover art for YES they had great covers also Led Zepplin. Remember Houses of the Holy? And the famous zipper on the Rolling Stones album just to name a few  ,  Maryann

  Yep,

That Rolling Stones " Sticky Fingers" album cover. Brought about a lot of giggles with the young ladies, at it's time of release. And the rummors that went around with it, lik, who was the model for the whitey tdies shot.

I always loved the song dead flowers from that album. Why?? I just liked the groove. Something different for the Stones.

Peace,

Hawkeye

Wow, thank you all for sharing your art and album covers with us.  The closest I came to 'rock-n-roll art' was when I was a young teenager and had pics/posters of Davy Jones (totally in love with him then untill I read somewhere that he was only 5'3"  Just kidding), Sajid Kahn (not rock-in-roll, but a tv star, anyone remember him from the series Maya with Jay North?), Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy (yet another heart-throb, back in the day), I also had some Mark Lindsay & Paul Revere and the Raiders posters. And of course The Beatles. My favorite poster and album cover at the time was "Abbey Road". And so many more.  I got all of my pics/posters from "Tiger Beat" magazine. Do any of you remember that?  Wow. I totally ruined the walls in my bedroom back then cause we had plaster walls and the tape back in the day, totally tore the plaster off the walls.  Oh well.  My parents, after I got married, just wallpapered the entire room to cover up the patches of plaster that came off with the tape.

Wow, thanks again for all of the memories this topic brought up for me.  It's really cool.  It's nice to remember the old times again.

Have a Great and Safe Week All !!

Kathy

Here you go--this was my favorite (and the ONLY Beatles album I ever bought)

Abbey Road.
