Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on the last Tuesday of December 2019. Hoping everyone has a great New Years Eve.
We had about 2" of snow last night and our Big Red truck was here at 3 am to shovel the driveway and patio.
Mary and I will have a quiet evening at home this evening and have a nice dinner.
Tomorrow will start with the Rose Bowl Parade and watching the Wisconsin Badger fans celebrate before the game at the parade.
Hoping everyone has a great 2020!
Afternoon all, awoke to the sounds of 14" of fluffy falling from my roof and burying my front doors.
Town plow clearing the road and burying my driveway. Neighbor burying my house with a V8 tractor snowblower.
Don't think I'll be seeing the lawn for awhile. Planning to dress like a penguin and do the walk later, as I return some of the deposits made by neighbor.
Hope all enjoy their New Years, I might be busy for awhile and the toddies purely for medicinal values may start earlier than planned.

Happy New Year! 🎉
Went on a last day hike in a national park today (Shenandoah) and planned on doing my annual First Day Hike at a state park tomorrow. BUT it was a strenuous one today and kicked my butt. Dropped about 1000+ ' in less than a mile and not on any trail, over rocky terrain and dead fall. But what's worse is we had to come back up. So don't know if I'm gonna be as raring to go tomorrow morning. Don't know if my sore legs will cooperate, but c'est la vie.
Be safe. Be happy. Enjoy your toddies or toast of choice. 😉 🥂
See you in the next thread.
@MsStretch Have always wanted to get to Shenadoah but never had the chance. It is on my bucket list!
Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this last Sunday morning of 2019. So what could be ahead in 2020?
Checking in on Predictions for the Year 2020
The International Space Station Could Get Its Own Timeshare by 2020.”
When I read that headline last week, my first thought was, “Holy crap, that is epic. A freakin’ Airbnb in space? Humans are awesome.”
Then, my second thought was, “This sounds exactly like a prediction someone would have made twenty years ago.”
I mean, space is the most classic “future” theme ever. The year 2020 is a nice round number. And people hanging out in a “space apartment” sounds like every 12-year-old’s semi-realistic fantasy (or the entire premise of The Jetsons).
Which got me thinking…
What are some actual predictions people made decades ago about the year 2020? What else did we think would be going down? And are we exceeding or falling short of expectations?
Using this thing called the Internet, I wound the clocks back to find out.
Good Sunday afternoon to all,
@DaveMcK ...Yeah....Not exactly sure that I'd want to be Jane Jetson, but would love to have the flying car and the robot maid...was her name Rosie? That cartoon show was so creative back in the day.
Kind of blah here...45 and feeling like 39. We are expecting rain in a few hours that will last through Monday, but at least it's rain and not the mess other parts of the country are getting.
Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday week whatever you are doing.
New Year's Eve's weather is looking good here, and I appreciate that since I'll be going out...not far, but driving at night is a pain no matter how far I have to go, and let alone watching out for the DUI folks.
Now it's time for more coffee.
Stay safe!
Flying cars we've had for the last 5-10 years, honestly don't see myself plopping down that spare $150K for it just now.
Self driving we kinda have now in Tesla's happy price point still a little way away perhaps cyber truck @40k or BMWi's or Mercedes and or any lane assist models. But, true self driving with or without painted lanes still not quite there.Eveb in $500k semi's, give it time technology is coming.
See me on the magic day Tesla's can be worked on by non-Tesla maker for repairs, almost there (legally). Like Electrified Garage in MA, for how to build a salvage Tesla for $10K.🤣
cell phone or watch radios got enough, beats the 300pound Motorola mobil phone that I had in the 70's, with maybe 20 channels in the head unit under dash. The remaining 290 lb stuffed in the trunk.
That funky new fangled internet or ARPA net has improved since the late 60's when it was Telecommuting with a 90lb laptop, a Teletype and 300 foot thermal paper, and 2-line display. Thankfully we've mostly said good bye to dialup modems. And lighter cells that perform like computers for a fraction of size or my older laptops.
Power - from Solar or Wind or Tidal action using non-fossil fuels to make electricity.
As for weather 👀 ng forward to snow on Tuesday, still looks like fun day and night. Seeing ice and grass beneath is a pita.Just not the same riding 30 minutes to see 68 trails of ski slopes open at Sunday River vs opening the door to snow🤣.

Tessie surveying the cleared pasture at the homestead for the first time. It has taken an entire summer to get it cleared, one day per week. Oh and this is the first time I got to see it too! We had a nice warm day to to enjoy the day after Christmas and walked pretty much all day. Still quite warm, will return to normal today. Still a struggle on the home front, not sure how it will go yet. A visit to the eye doctor today. I dislike medical appointments. @Frozenoem, and Nancy, I know how you must suffer.
Afternoon all, it's snowing in Western Maine👍, might actually lose the sight of lawn soon.
Snow totals are increasing to 10-14", with only a little glazing of ice, at midway point on Tuesday.
If joy at snow totals sounds odd, might be too many years in this area of the state speaking. Winter without snow to 2nd floor is boring.🤣
On that cheery note it's time to play in woodpile, just in case. And see if I can still start a 14.5 hp snowblower, miss flinging snow 60feet.

Happy New Year’s Eve Eve!
Windy, chilly, and wet here today. I thought it was supposed to be warmer so I was unpleasantly surprised, although I should have known better. Rain in winter always makes it seem colder than it actually is. It’s 43 and feels like 39 which shouldn’t be bad at all, but I should have worn a heavier sweater under my jacket.
Just came back from the dentist for my permanent crown. Barrels of fun for sure.
Plan to stay in and dry for the rest of the day.
Need to make an appetizer for tomorrow night.
Rain is supposed to clear out tonight and we’re supposed to have a great day and night tomorrow.
Hope you all are able to manage whatever weather comes your way.
Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this Friday the 27th of December 2019. Next week we will be looking at the arrival of 2020. It seems that the years are going faster and faster. The day to day changes in our lives seem to bring more unknown challenges.
I hope everyone has a restful weekend!
My back and ribs are now saying the snow drought has ended. And soon we lose the sheets of ice formerly known as driveway and streets.
👀Ng forward to 6-10" , and hopefully running the snowblower again. Translation boredom from sitting on my hindquarters has set in.

Good morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this 24th day of December 2019. We are starting out the day with fog and a high of 45* today. We will be celebrating Christmas here today as our 3 daughters will be heading to other places tomorrow. Hoping everyone has a great day today!

Dave and Family, thank you for the greetings and especially sharing your beautiful tree!
This is our first year without observing this holiday, as our faith was tested and lost post 1-Oct.
We wish everyone safe and happy holidays, whatever observance they have.
And we wish those who observe religious holidays do not pass judgement on those of us who do not.
Thank you, again, Dave and Family!
Good Morning Porch Peeps!
Sure hope you are enjoying your Christmas Eve or Third (?) night of Hanukkah, or whatever you may be celebrating or not celebrating. Just have a lovely day!
It's 45 here with sun and may reach 50.
I slept late this AM and then had a slice of my neighbor's pumpkin bread for breakfast.
Have to write a note to remind myself to burn a bayberry candle down tonight.
Later I will watch the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol...that's my favorite version. Then tonight I will watch It's a Wonderful Life. Christmas Eve is kind of a lonely time here, so it's nice to do the things we used to do to enjoy the memories.
Tomorrow I'm heading to my friends' house to enjoy Christmas with their family.
I hope you enjoy your holidays in whatever ways you like to celebrate. N.
Thanx for the memory jog on Bayberry Candles, I was looking at my last box of votive Bayberries on Saturday and wondering what I was supposed to do with them.
This mornings post rang my memory bells, to Hatfield, MA annual Luminaria. Where the Saturday before Christmas the town is alit with Bayberry Candles and the scent fills the air of the town.
Maybe next year for the 40th year of Luminarium and 351st anniversary of the founding of the town I'll remember it.
At least now I recall why the VCR tape labeled Luminarium Hatfield is with the candles. Wish I knew where the VCR is.
Hope all enjoy there Christmas Eve and day.

Good Christmas morning to all of the Porch Peeps!
If you are traveling today, be safe.
If you are staying home with loved ones, be cozy.
If you are alone, enjoy your memories and maybe reach out to someone.
And of course, drink coffee!
Merry Christmas, Everyone!
Good Saturday morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this 21st day of December! Hoping everyone has a restful weekend!
@LaDolceVita Wish you the strength to deal with your challenges of parenting parents in this sobering reality of dealing with your aging parent. May the Lord grant you the strength to deal with this challenge in your life.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve, Everyone!
I got up early today as it was supposed to be a busy morning, but one event was cancelled, so I could move a little more slowly.
Had to go to the post office and was expecting mayhem in Bedlam, but it wasn't real busy. I did hate to have to bother the girls to mail a package to Canada (an involved process), but one of my customers won 3 of my auctions and paid right away, so I HAD to mail within 24 hours.
As long as I was out and about and the town didn't seem crowded, I went into the florist's to get a pretty Xmas bouquet, and then on to CVS. Was thiking of stopping at Starbucks, but decided I didn't need the extra calories considering the next few days ahead.
Now I need to make the final layer on my Xmas jello salad, so will bid you all a Merry day!
Good Friday morning to everyone on the Front Porch on this sunny morning! We are looking forward to a high of 41*. I would like to dedicate today to all of the military personnel stationed away from home and family this Holiday season. Some are stationed in harm's way and some are providing aid to people that were driven from their home Lands. When we are sitting down to our family gatherings may we take a moment to remember those fellow Americans that are not with friends and family members. I will be thinking of my fellow Veterans who are homeless trying to make sense of their lives after returning from combat and feeling alone an broken. Bless them all!
Happy Friday, Everyone,
Still waiting for the warm-up here. It isn't as cold as yesterday, but still below our normal for this time of year.
As I pulled up to pay for my Starbucks this AM, my favorite barista informed me that the person in the car ahead of me had paid for my order. I love this time of year! Wish it happened more often. So I paid for the guy behind me and drove off smiling with a happy heart.
Kind of like a Hallmark moment!
Morning folks. Not cold here, just cloudy and wet. Expecting a warm up over Christmas. Mom's companion will be released Christmas Eve morning, I may have to pick her up if none of her friends are available. Cannot wait to see what I will be up against. Things cannot get much worse or difficult than they are right now.
Good to everyone on the Front Porch on this very cold Wednesday morning in December of 2019! It was 5* when I got up at 8:00 AM and looking at a high of 18* if you can call that a high.
Mary is wrapping Christmas presents for our early celebration on Tuesday as that is the results of juggling our three daughters schedules and their in laws celebration days.
Hoping everyone is having a nice day.
Hello, Everyone,
It was nice to see the sun this morning after a couple of nasty rainy days. Already thte clouds are blowing in although we aren't supposed to get any rain for the next 10 days! Maybe a snow shower though. It's 36 and feels like 27. We are expecting arctic temps come in for tonight and tomorrow, but it's supposed to get to 50 sometime this weekend!
After doing a little errand running earlier, it's good to be home with a Starbucks peppermint mocha.
Stay cozy and warm!
Afternoon got some snow overnight, full sun but, 11 below the winds are howling.
Had to rest up after yesterday's ? tests - wiped out.
If I get brave have to play in garage. Need to replace panel in door, slightly cold.
Enjoy

Hi there, Porch Peeps!
We did get a bit of a snow squall yesterday evening, about the time I was taking the trash can to the street. Then this AM at 8:00 it was 18 and felt like 5! A few minutes ago I came in from bringing the trash cans back. I had on a parka, scarf, and gloves for a 2 minute task, and the wind cut through my jeans like they were made of nylon. YIKES!
I think there is a warm up sometime tomorrow.
Stay cozy!
