Early renewal with current promo

My membership currently renews in July.  If I take advantage of the current 9 dollar/5 year promo does that tack on to the current renewal date or does it start with the date of renewal (December).

I I just renewed my aarp membership for 5 years at $9 per year, around Dec 10 2024, WHICH IS A FEW DAYS AGO, which is a bargain, and was promised a red blue tooth speaker.  I just got an email saying speaker is on its way in a couple weeks.  It showed a usps tracking nbr which on the usps website says was delivered 3 MONTHS ago in Sept in Maine.  I live in Minnesota.  I've never been to Maine.  How can something have been delivered 3 MONTHS ago, for a renewal from only 3 DAYS ago?  This is the 3rd time I've been screwed by aarp in the last decade.  One item never showed up.  And the last item did the same thing, I got a **bleep**ing email saying it was delivered way before my actual renewal, and it never showed up.  If I'm being sent someone else's tracking nbr, then who is getting mine?  And on my account on the aarp website, there is NO info whatsoever about the speaker.  Why do I even bother...?

TerryA1956 Great question! Renewing your membership early will always add on to your current membership's expiration date. So, if your membership is set to expire December 2025, and you renew for 5-years, your membership will be extended to December 2030. Let us know if you have any other questions, and thank you for your continued support! - Christy C.

I was going to renew  for $12 per month and set it all up. However when I received the receipt, I was informed my next bill would be $20. That  is an exorbitant increase! I quickly canceled.

@SoulSurvivor61 I hope you reconsider and give us another chance. I'm so sorry for any confusion this may have caused. AARP membership is offered in yearly increments, not monthly. Our standard rate of membership is currently $16 per year, but we occasionally have special offers that circulate. In January 2025, our new rate of membership will be $20 per year. It sounds like you may have tried to use an automatic renewal offer that explained the upcoming new membership rate. I'm here to help if you have any questions that I may be able to help answer. You can also send us a private message if you need anything further. You may need to enable private messages to do this, learn more here: https://aarp.info/47hWcl7  - Janelle M.
