Get a real healthcare system

The US is the laughingstock of the developed world for our instance healthcare system.  It’s clear Medicare is carefully constructed to maximize profits/revenue for insurance companies and drug distribution companies.  If AARP really wants to help, lobby for a decent national healthcare system like, among many others Canada.

specifically, the AARP “endorsed” UHC plan has no straightforward way to disenroll and stop them stealing my money.

Decent guidance on how to contest Medicare part b premiums would also be useful.

I had two friends in Canada and a cousin in England and used to have friend in Australia, Canada: 1 was healthy and satisfied with care she got for maternity while the 2nd had lung cancer and could not get up-to-date treatment and had to wait 3 mo. to start standard of care treatment. England: friend with breast cancer, was terrified to learn of delay in treatment plan due to lack of physicians willing to work NHS so she came to USA for care. The Australian friend couldn’t get the cancer care she needed due to government run healthcare. Both she and the Canadian (LC) died while the wealthy English friend who’d come to USA for care is alive today. You do not want gov’t bean counters making your healthcare decisions of which you have no input. Universal health plan allows for BASIC CARE only. If you think your government cares about its citizens then just look at current events where illegal entrants from south of the border are being housed, fed, given stipends while Americans sleep on sidewalks, many vets and seniors among them.

You are so right, but maybe AARP contributes to the problem. In my state there’s the AARP UHC Medigap G, another high deductible AARP Medigap, a few versions of AARP United HC Medicare Advantage, along with a dozen other Medigap and Medicare Advantage options from various companies. Then there’s several plan D options. UHC is not the cheapest. The AARP dental plan costs more than a very similar marketplace version. I know Americans like choice, and I’ve got some friends who choose not to see a doctor unless it’s an emergency and don’t believe in prescriptions, so they’re happy with a $0 Medicare Advantage plan. Same folks don’t see dentists or eye doctors either. Others like myself want the good coverage I had through my employer but are shocked by the cost and confused by the many options.

The UHC plan where I live in CA is far too expensive and nowhere as good as others have said.

besides, I was asking the AARP lobby for a true national healthcare system, not the disaster we have now that’s set up to enrich health insurance companies

We have a UHC MA plan and it is great. Covers part A, B, &D. It also covers dental and eyes. It is convenient because everything is under one plan. You don't have to get separate part D, dental, and eye coverage.

Read what I wrote.  I want AARP to lobby government so we have a real healthcare system like Canada, UK, France, etc.  As for me, I’m enrolled in a plan through my wife’s union that provides better coverage, especially for prescriptions at about 3% of the UHC AARP plan.

Best you study those nations’ universal plans which are failing for a couple decades now.

Where do you live? I'm in Central Texas and very happy with the health care I am getting. I have Medicare Advantage through Baylor Scott and White.

If you have problems and want changes, contact your representatives in Congress.
