I am interested in learning more about the Senior Games competitions in Idaho; specifically swimming. How does one register and when? What are the swimming events? What does it take to qualify for the 2019 nationals in New Mexico? Etc. Anyone with information to share, I would appreciate the guidance. Thank you!
James
Hi James,
Boy oh boy, do I have information to share! 🙂
There are the Idaho Senior Games, held in Boise: http://www.idahoseniorgames.org This is a qualifying state level senior games, and 2018 is a qualifying year.
Here are the rules: http://www.idahoseniorgames.org/_uploads/res/40_12901.PDF
For swimming, the qualifying rules state that:
1. All first-, second-, third- and fourth-place winners or athletes meeting this sport’s NSGA minimum performance standards in competition at a 2018 NSGA qualifying games will qualify for the 2019 National Senior Games.
If you are in SE Idaho, you might also look into the SE Idaho Senior Games: https://seidahoseniorgames.org It is not clear to me if they are or are not a qualifying state level games. You'll want to make certain before registering, of course.
Go to their events page and scroll down to swimming. They offer quite a number of swimming events. The swimming events appear to be held in Pocatello. The dates are July 6-14, 2018.
And here's the web site for the National Senior Games, where you can check out their rules, and also other State Games: http://nsga.com
Let me know how I can help further,
Epster, 11-time senior games gold medalist in cycling
@jamesr538275 Excellent. I have not (yet) competed at Idaho, but they are on my radar. I have competed at South Dakota, Nebraska and Utah and hope to be able to add Colorado this year. So I have a bit of relavent experience to share should you like. My husband and I are competitive cyclists, so I cannot speak about swimming events, but I sure can tell you about registration and all that jazz.
The other thing I can tell you about the games is the social aspect. These are the best people anywhere. I've been competing two years and already have friends all over the nation because of it. 🙂
I'm hoping you win a bunch of gold! 🙂
