Bronze Conversationalist

Gift Cards/ e-Certificates are divided into two groups:

1- Gift Cards ( and some Physical Items) that can redeemed with AARP Rewards Points only. No money is involved. [ You can also use your Reward Points to enter 'Instant Wins' and "Monthly Sweepstakes" ]  Click here for current Redemptions ----->  AARP Rewards: Explore Ways to Reward Yourself

2 - Discounted gift cards Available for cash, limited to 5 Standard cards purchased per month and 25 Premium cards purchased per month. Premium Cards are indicated with a blue box reading โ€œPremiumโ€, located in the upper left corner of the item image.

With these 'Discounted Gift Cards' where you must purchase/ use your money to get these Gift Cards; you'll later be sent the Gift card/ e-Certificate - you'll save $ off the regular price at some  -%

So no - you can not use your Reward Points like cash for these gift Certificates/ gift cards. Examples - these are like the ' Travel Cruise gift certificates' and most items that has a " $ Value " listed where you may save 5% up to 30% off the regular price.  Click here ---->  AARP Rewards: Explore Ways to Reward Yourself

You will notice the difference between gift cards that can only redeemed with Reward Points and all the rest where you must pay with your personal credit card or other paypal type wallets = you pay first and then you should receive the "discounted gift card/ certificate" in your email box - you should save $ dollars.
