Taking walking poles on planes

According to the TSA rules, walking poles are not allowed to be taken through security, even when you need them as a walking assistive device. Crutches and canes are OK. This seems like a disconnect in terms of a security threat. I spoke with TSA and they said wallets not allowed. It’s up to each agent to use their discretion. That doesn’t sound right either.  Walking poles seem a lot less threatening than metal crutches. I’d like to see if AARP can do some advocacy to change this prohibition. More more people are using walking poles as opposed to canes and walkers. They are prevalent in Europe and it does me no good to check them if I need them to walk with. I’d like for AARP to consider looking at how we might change these rules.   Carrie
