Does signing my spouse up require her to have a separate account?

Community Concierge

Hi! kk8152872! It does not. We simply add her as the secondary to your membership. She then enjoys all of the same benefits. You both do need to have separate emails, and each of you will log into the AARP.org website separately. We are always happy to assist. You can send me a private message with your full address or use this link for contact options: https://aarp.info/3epCObA -Sue J

Hello, @kk8152872

Yes. If you and your spouse are non-members, then your spouse will need to set-up a separate account (18+ with verifiable phone number).

No. If you are already a member, then, you get a free secondary account, which could be, in your case, for your spouse. As an AARP member, one perk is the free secondary account by which you can attach a spouse/other adult residing at the same residence as yourself (even if they are under age 50).

[see below for more information

Add A Free Secondary AARPยฎ Membership for any Household Adult

If you are an AARP member, you can add your spouse or an adult living at your address to your account as a secondary member for free. Even if they are under 50, they can enjoy full membership status as long as you, the primary member, are over 50.

They're also able to receive their own membership card, which we will automatically send once you add them to your account.

You can add a secondary member to your account at any time online by following these steps:

1.  Click the Login button in the red bar at the top of the screen. (If youโ€™re already logged in, skip to step 3.)

2.  Fill in your login credentials and click Log In.

3.  Look for your name in the red bar at the top of the screen and click on it to reveal a dropdown list.

4.  Select My Account from the dropdown.

5.  Click on the Account Details tab. Here you can update all of your account details, including adding a secondary member.

6.  Scroll down to the section that says Spouse/Partner and click on the Edit button.

7.  Fill in your secondary memberโ€™s information and hit Save.

8.  To edit this information, your spouse/partner must log in or register with aarp.org.

If you prefer, you can also give AARP a call at 1-888-OUR-AARP (1-888-687-2277). Theyโ€™ll be happy to help!  [Originally published July 2019]

Hope it all works out. ๐Ÿ™‚
