Cost of Part D coverage increased 450%

My wife & I have Aetna CVS Caremark Part D coverage since we retired (4 years).  The cost has been $10/month for the last 2 years.  We received our January invoice and the cost is now $45/month.  The notice for the price increase was sent when we were on an extended vacation last year and we missed it on a quick mail review on our return.  After contacting Aetna we were told our plan was cancelled.  There are plans available in our zip for about what we were paying last year & we would have changed if we knew the increase was going to be that much.  I know we missed the change window Oct - Dec.

Is there any recourse or a reason that would allow us to change now or do we have to pay the huge increase for the remainder of 2025.

@t428951z  I'm sorry that is happening to you, I know how hard expenses are now. Depending on your overall plan, there is time to make changes. Go to www.Medicare.gov to see all the guidelines. Take care!  Jodee R.

@t428951z

Sorry you missed the open enrollment period especially for this year since there were so many changes due to the Inflation Reduction Act.

But it is what it is - since your plan and your wife’s plan are freestanding Medicare Part D plans, the only way that you would be able to change is IF you had a situation that allowed for a Special Enrollment Period as defined by Medicare.

Here is the list of them -

Medicare.gov Special Enrollment Periods for Medicare Part D Plan
