FAQ: What is Hex Puzzle Adventure?

What is Hex Puzzle Adventure?

Hex Puzzle Adventure is a puzzle game that’s as relaxing and satisfying as it is challenging. Match like-colored hexagonal pieces on a hexagonal board to remove as many stacks as you can!

What is the goal of the game?

The goal of the game is to remove enough stacks to beat the level and move on to the next one.

How do I beat a level?

To beat a level, place two stacks next to each other on the board with the same color piece at the top. The pieces will automatically jump to form one larger stack. When the stack is ten or more pieces, that color will be removed from the game, adding that many points to your total. When your total reaches your goal, you beat the level.

Can I lose?

Yes. If you are unable to place a stack due to a full board, you lose a life.

How do lives/hearts work?

You will start the game with five lives, or hearts. Every time you fail a level, you lose a life. If you lose all five lives, you won’t be able to play until at least one heart regenerates. Hearts regenerate over time; if you wait long enough, all five will come back. To check how many lives you have and how much time until one regenerates, click on the heart icon on the map screen.

How do I choose which pieces I can place on the board?

You will be given three stacks at random, which appear on the bottom of the screen. You need to use all three of those stacks; when you do, you will be given three more to place.

How do I play Hex Puzzle Adventure?

Drag one of the stacks of pieces from the bottom of the screen onto an available hexagonal tile to place it.

What are the screens between each level?

Before and after each level, you’ll visit the “map,” where you can choose the next level to play. The levels ascend in order, so you can always click “play next” to play the next level. However, you can also retry previous levels if you’d like.

Is there a time limit?

No.

How do power ups work in Hex Puzzle Adventure?

As you play Hex Puzzle Adventure, you’ll be introduced to three power ups. You’ll start with two uses of each, and can buy more with the coins you receive for beating levels. These power ups can be the difference between success and failure! Here’s what they are:

  1. Hammer – This power up allows you to smash a stack, clearing the full space.
  2. Instant Refresh – This power up allows you to get rid of the stacks you have, offering you three new ones.
  3. The Hand – This power up lets you move one stack to an empty space.

Don’t overuse these power ups, as they don’t come by often – but always keep them in your back pocket!

How do coins work?

When you beat a level, you’ll gain coins. You can use those coins to buy additional power up uses while playing a level. If you’d like more coins, you can also click the coin icon in the top left of the screen while playing. There, you can grab a few coins for free, and you can earn more by watching ads.

What are some tips to help me beat levels?

There are a few things to keep an eye out for while playing to ensure that you can beat the level and move on:

  1. The obvious move isn’t always the best. It can be tempting to place like-colored hexagons next to each other so they stack up. But sometimes it’s better to play slowly. If you keep a space between like-colored pieces, you can put another piece in between them to have your stack combine all three. This not only creates a bigger stack, meaning higher chances of it getting removed from the game, but it also allows other colors beneath to have a chance to be stacked.
  2. Watch ads to free spaces. If a tile has a movie slate icon on it, it’s locked and cannot be used… unless you click on it. If you do, once you watch an ad, that tile will be useable.
  3. Use the space. Not all tiles need to be next to each other! If you cram everything together, you might get stuck. Spread out while you play!
  4. Watch for locked tiles. Some tiles will only become available after you’ve removed a certain number of pieces. Keep those spaces in mind, and play with the goal of opening them up. Space is at a premium in this game.

Can I turn off the sound?

Yes. Click the gear icon in the top right of the screen while playing to toggle the sound on and off. You can also use this screen to go back to the map.

Here is a tip that I didn't realize until playing this game for a while.

On the playing field, if you click on the top of a stack, most of the time it will tell you how many are in that stack color.  You need to achieve 10 in a stack to eliminate it.

I'm at Level 158 and can simply not get past it.  Anyone have any ideas?  Also, the Hammer doesn't seem to always work.  Sometimes when you click on it, it just makes a repeated clicking sound but does not remove a stack.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have that problem with the Finger Moving a stack to another location. I get charged the 100 coins, and then nothing happens. I'm wondering if it's a matter of how many are in a stack before you can move it.

That’s exactly my experience. I came here to find an answer.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one!  What I finally did to get past it was this:  I left the game open for several days and set a timer so I could collect all the coins possible.  Then I paid to recycle the stacks that weren't going to help me until I got some that would work.  So in other words, I paid the 35 coins to recycle the stacks until I got some that would be helpful or I ran out of money.  Then I waited the 4 hours to collect more coins and went thru the process again.  Hope this helps.

I am probably missing something, but I am only able to collect 5 coins per hour by selecting the +5 selection.  How many coins are you collecting in the 4 hour wait time?  If it is more than me could you explain the way to do it.  Thank you.

I am only at 147, congratulations on getting to your level.  My hammer works, but only if I have achieved 100 coins.

Regular Contributor

I am sorry I meant to say 60 coins for the hammer.  100 for the hand to insert the selection.  35 for a new 3 stack selection.

Thanks for your reply.  Why do you have to have 100 coins to use the hammer if it only costs 60?  I never have enough coins and there doesn't seem to be any way to watch extra ads in order to earn them.

What I do is click on the Free! coin image.  Every hour it will reset and allow you to get 5 more coins if you click on the +5 selection.

Before I started level 90 I had over 106 coins.  I didn't use any of my rewards.  When level 90 opened, I only had 69 coins. ???????????????

Same here.  Spaces on the board are blocked and it always says the ad cannot be loaded. Also when I try to get the free spot.

Why don't I ever get a score posted?  I don't ever see anyone's score shown for anything for this particular game.

How do you use the coins to purchase power ups? I don't see that option on the screen

When you achieve enough coins for a particular power up, you just click on that power up.  If you have enough coins, you can use another power up in that same game, or they will be still available in your next game.

Excellent description of the game, thank you. I have a question. If I end the game to play another game, am I able to re-enter the game at the level where I stopped? If so, what are the steps. Also, it seems like my game gets locked when I click on the ‘movie’ tile and I have to close down the AARP app.  Am I doing something wrong, or have a setting that I need to update?
