Like them or not, cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum continue to march into the financial mainstream, and the next frontier could be retirement savings.

In late May, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) rescinded prior federal guidance that discouraged 401(k) plan providers from offering crypto on their investment menus. While that isnโ€™t necessarily an official stamp of approval โ€” the DOL said it is maintaining a โ€œneutral stanceโ€ on adding crypto to retirement plans โ€” it does further open the door for a digital asset option.

If youโ€™re looking for an asset class that is very steady and will help you sleep more soundly at night, cryptocurrency might not be for you.

@Winter2025VA,

I have yet to hear anyone explain cryptocurrency to me where I understood it and I listen intently to the financial news networks, read financial newspapers, and read financial magazines.

I do hear regularly of these currencies being "stolen" from where ever in the WEB O' SPHERE they are kept.

And, if YOU KNOW WHO is all for it....it has got to be spurious.

Sad thing is the retirement system here just got approval to invest in these kind of investments. That's because our legislators(who are a bunch of YOU KNOW WHOS") approved putting people's retirement at risk like that,

The actual investor has the final decision  of where their money goes in retirement accounts, especially if it is of their own making.  Even an employer has to offer choices, some more secure than others for the more aggressive among us.

Crypto is probably a bit over my head since I am so old but it might not be for others who are younger.  I do know a few youngers who think they are rich today and broke the next.  I will say that crypto is real interesting in concept.

I heard Arthur Laffer speak today at the Young Americans Conference.  His take is that when people become disillusioned with the value of the dollar, they will look to other forms of currency to pursue like gold or crypto.

I am sure that most people donโ€™t watch the ebb and flow of the value of the dollar - but it does go up and down - sometimes very rapidly.

ITโ€˜S ALWAYS SOMETHING . . . . .. . . .
